Farewell and Amen! There are many challenges in ministry but the most difficult one of all is saying farewell to a Church family you have loved and been loved by. If I had an endless supply of words, it would be inadequate to express the gratitude our family has for Centreville United Methodist Church. We pray the Holy Spirit will carry the love we have for you from our hearts to yours. On Sunday June 18, 2017 I will be preaching my last message. On Sunday June 25, 2017 we will attend our last worship service. We will be busy moving both the parsonage and my office in the month of June, so my last day in the office will be June 15, 2017. As we depart Centreville United Methodist Church I am confident of many things: First, this is an incredible Church and I know God has big plans for your future. Your obedience to the leading of the Holy Spirit has brought this Church to a great place of faithfulness and fruitfulness. My cup runneth over with joy witnessing the impact this ministry has had for the Kingdom of God. May your witness continue to be even stronger in the years to come. Second, the plan is clear. Press on to transform the world by making disciples for Jesus Christ. Pastor Chris, the staff, leadership and laity of this Church is equipped to pursue and fulfill the plan to revive and transform Centreville and the surrounding area. Follow the plan in God s power and watch and see what wonderful things God will accomplish! Finally, more than anything, I am confident of the love you have for our Lord and for one another. If there is a legacy from my tenure of service at Centreville United Methodist Church, it will be an abiding awareness of God s love, exemplified in Jesus. I had one goal when I came to Centreville UMC, and that was to passionately let you know about the Savior of the world, Jesus!! Thank you for allowing us to share in your faith journey for the last nine years. You will always remain in our hearts and in our prayers. We are grateful for your love and support and the ways in which we were accepted. We will carry with us all that we have learned from Centreville United Methodist Church. May God be with you all until we meet again. Amen!!!

Page 2 All Things Prayer! When We Do Not Pray Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God (1 John 4:7). Prayer, at its heart, is communicating with God. What does it say to Him when we fail to find time to talk with Him? Do we say by our lack of prayer that we are not at all interested in spending time with the Lord or hearing anything from Him? When we do not pray, we move away from any possibility of intimacy with Christ. When prayerlessness is prevalent in our lives, we are also guilty of failure to love one another. There is scarcely any greater way to demonstrate love than to pray for someone. In godly intercession, we lift the needs of another to God and watch as He moves to meet needs and provide for the one we are praying for. Through prayer, bodies are healed, families are knit together, individuals are saved, and churches are revived. When we withhold prayer on behalf of others, we demonstrate hardened hearts and a failure to love them enough to bring their needs before a loving Father. Lord God, my desire is to love You deeply, and to spend time developing my relationship with You. Draw me to Your heart so that I might love others the way that You love them. May I never pass up opportunities You give me to bring others before You in prayer. Adapted from the article The Sin of Prayerlessness by Dave Butts. Prayer Points Praise God for his great love and mercy shown to you (Eph 2:4). Give thanks that nothing can separate you from the love of Jesus (Rom. 8:35). Confess any lack of love which you have shown to God or to another person. Commit yourself to loving God with your whole being (Deut. 6:5). Ask God to prune your life so that the spiritual fruit of love will grow large and appetizing to others. It was Jesus love for sinners that sent him to the cross. Pray for an opportunity to share that kind of sacrificial love with another person (Jn. 15:9). Prayer Points taken from Patterns for Prayer by Alvin VanderGriend.

Page 4 Some changes to the Discovery Series Bible studies Over the last year and more we have noticed a change in the needs of the church when it comes to offering Bible studies through the Discovery Series. Many small groups are currently active in studying the Word of God in their homes. Additionally, our attendance in formal Bible studies has consistently declined. In order to give everyone the opportunity for spiritual growth yet in a way that will work best for our church, we are going to initiate some changes in the Discovery Series. Instead of publishing a formal Discovery Series Newsletter twice a year with a number of Bible studies, we will be offering individual studies randomly throughout the year. We will likely offer the same number of studies we have in the past, except this time they won t be overlapping where several are taking place simultaneously. We will advertise these studies as they become available through our regular monthly newsletter, our weekly announcements, and our e-blasts. More details will follow soon so stay tuned! Blessings! Needed: Sunday School Teachers The Sunday school program is in need of teachers for the upcoming 2017-2018 year. We have had some very dedicated teachers and a few of them are moving on after this school year ends. If God is leading you to help lead the children of CUMC in Christ, please contact Kim Parkerson at kimkeith@atlanticbb.net. Calling All CUMC Musicians! Soloists and small ensembles are invited to share your musical gifts with the congregation during the traditional service throughout the summer months. All voices, instruments, and ages are welcome. You can play a piece of your choosing, or if you don't know, we'll help you find something you will enjoy. If you would like to perform as part of a group but need help finding partners, there will be opportunities to perform in that way. To sign up as a soloist, group, or to be partnered with a group, please sign up outside the church office or contact Jodi Bortz at 410-849-9862 or jbortz@centreville-umc.com.

Page 6 Contemporary Worship Update: The Holy Spirit has been alive and present in our contemporary worship services. Our Praise Band has been praying and practicing each week to bring worship, praise and revival into our church. Recently, Mike Connolly and April Dadds announced they have decided to retire from their Praise Band and Sound Technician positions. Mike has been a huge supporter of the Praise Band and music almost from the very beginning of the contemporary service as a male vocalist and playing keyboard, bass and guitar. His dedication, commitment and enthusiasm have kept the forward momentum of the band going for over a decade. He has always been there with plans A through Z ready for any occasion. Also, he has been a huge supporter of our evangelical ministry and bringing our music to the community. His energy and thumping bass will be missed!! April joined our group as a Sound Technician several years ago. Her love of Christ and music have been a wonderful support to the Band. She spent a lot of time mastering the sound boards and learning how to control our music at our outside events as well. She has a wonderful ear for music and has been a supporter of the band and contemporary music for many years. Their last service with the Band and Sound Board will be June 11th. Please take a moment and thank them for their time with the music ministry at CUMC. We are calling on the congregation and members of CUMC to help the Praise Band with additional musicians. Everyone needs a Sunday off now and again. We are looking for people to play all instruments - Bass, Guitar and Drums! Musicians should be able to practice with us on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:00pm. We would love to build a group of musicians and grow the band to allow for some rotation. If you have interest or questions, please reach out to us Sunday morning or through email julsmorrva@gmail.com.

My name is Doug Witt and I live here in Centreville with my parents Doug & Lynn Witt as well as my two younger brothers Grant (19) and Blake (17). We moved to Centreville in 2008 and I began coming to Centreville UMC with my mother in about 2009/2010. I first became involved in activities in the church in 2015 when approached by our Youth Director, Rudy Draper to come and help him out when he started with youth group Sunday nights. I officially joined the church in 2016 and since then I have continued to work with Rudy and the Youth Ministries on Sunday and Wednesday nights. I volunteer in multiple areas in the church including ushering, talent show, etc. Since coming to this church I have made many friends and have been able to do lots of amazing things within and for this church. To think back to when I first started coming to this church I always wanted to have a church email address and now I have one. I look forward to bringing you a great newsletter each and every month. JUNE 2017 Page 11 Dear Church, I have some wonderful news to share, and as my church family I wanted you to be the first to know. I have written a Christian novel, and it is going to be published! It is very simply a book about Jesus Christ and his walk with us in our lives. The story itself is fiction; I have created all of the characters, but at the same time it is a very true story because it mirrors our own individual journeys with Christ. I would love to take credit for the authorship of this book, but I really can t. I give all glory to God for the idea and to the Holy Spirit for working through me to put the words on the pages. I was merely the vessel. The book is going be officially released on September 19 th. Within about a month of that date we will be having a book release party at the church where copies will be available for purchase and I will be sharing more about the story of how this book came to fruition. I would be both blessed and honored if you would be a part of this journey with me! More details will follow as the release approaches. In the meantime, please do two things for me. First, help spread the word! This isn t about publicizing a book, it is about sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with as many people as possible. Second, please pray that this book will reach those people who need to know Jesus in their lives, whether Christians or anyone else. I can t wait to share this journey with all of you!
