SAINT THERESA PARISH A member of the Catholic Community of Billerica ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORT FISCAL YEAR 2017 (JULY 1 2016 JUNE 30 2017) Please visit our Website: billericacatholic.org 466 Boston Road Billerica, Massachusetts 01821 978-663-8816 BE DISCIPLES, PROCLAIM THE FAITH, MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Dear Parishioners, As autumn arrives, we are pleased to present to you the Annual Financial Report for Saint Theresa Parish for the fiscal year July 1, 2016 -June 30, 2017. As you know, the numbers can only tell part of the story. Our strength as a faith community is best measured by the ways we express and experience the love of God and of our neighbor. As we begin our fourth year as a collaborative, we continue to come together implementing our Pastoral Plan, enhancing faith formation of children and adults, encouraging participation in ministries and managing our financial plan. We are all very grateful for all the good work done by our Pastoral Team, parish staff and dedicated volunteers, and the guidance given by our Pastoral Council and Finance Council. We pray that with a generous sharing of time, talent, and treasure on the part of all our parishioners, we can continue to make progress growing our parish. Yours in Christ, OFFERTORY COLLECTION During fiscal year 2016-2017, our total revenue from offertory collections was $526,202.76, a decrease of $26,310.09 from the previous year. You can help to reduce this shortfall by using Offertory Envelopes and Online Giving. ENVELOPES One of the main sources of income for the operation of the parish is the weekly offertory and the use of offertory envelopes. As we are all aware, costs continue to increase, but revenue has declined. We encourage all parishioners to use weekly envelopes which can be used even when you might be away. In the Catholic Community of Billerica, our envelopes are color coded (red) so that no matter which parish you attend Mass, the donation will be given to St. Theresa. ONLINE GIVING Electronic giving is available at St. Theresa as a convenient tool for contributions. Online giving helps you maintain your giving and commitment to the parish even if you are unable to be at Mass. It also helps the parish to manage its cash flow, especially during bad weather and vacation times. Go to billericacatholic.org and under Quick Links choose Online Giving - St. Theresa. GRAND ANNUAL COLLECTION The Grand Annual Collection is an integral part of the financial structure of St. Theresa Parish and helps to maintain a financially stable parish. In the past, the Grand Annual Collection was used strictly for capital improvements, but this is no longer the case. Each year, we rely on both weekly offertory contributions and Grand Annual contributions to fund operations and ministries. The Grand Annual continues to be the most important component of the parish budget after the regular Sunday collections. Monies raised in the Grand Annual Collection help to balance the operating budget and offset shortfalls. During fiscal year 2016-2017, our Grand Annual collection was $61,211.00, an increase of $8,779.31 from 2015-2016.

This increase helped to cover operating expenses not met by our offertory. We thank you for you generous support of this collection as it is critically important for the health and maintenance of our parish. MEMORIAL GIFTS, BEQUESTS, AND SACRAMENTAL OFFERINGS Memorial gifts, bequests, and sacramental offerings are another significant source of revenue for the parish. During fiscal year 2016-2017, we received $69,910.49, an increase of $578.01 from the prior year. We are most grateful to those who remember the parish through their estate as well as to those who donate to the parish in memory of their loved ones. CATHOLIC APPEAL REBATE The Catholic Appeal unites the faithful of the Archdiocese of Boston to promote the work of the Church. This work is accomplished through more than 50 ministries, called Central Ministries, at work in our Archdiocese. These ministries enrich parish life and also strengthen families, educate and inspire future generations. The Catholic Appeal collection is significant for the Archdiocese of Boston as well as St. Theresa. Each parish receives a rebate for paid pledges over its assessment. During fiscal year 2016-2017, we received a rebate of $7,616.70, an increase from the prior year. Thank you for your continued generosity to this important collection. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION The Catholic Community of Billerica began collaborative Religious Education in the fall of 2015. Our goal remains creating an environment in which our children can fall in love with Jesus, and in which their parents and guardians can be transformed into followers of Jesus with a growing desire to attend Mass. The same content is presented at different times, on different days, allowing families the flexibility to attend classes at the location that best fits their schedule. Tuition for Religious Education is paid to the church they are registered in. The costs of the Religious Education program are shared by the three parishes in the collaborative on a per student basis. Our program continues to thrive. In 2016-2017 over 100 children received their First Holy Communion and over 175 young adults received their Confirmation in Billerica. We are so blessed! We are also very blessed to have a great group of dedicated catechists who spend time sharing their faith through information and witness in BCRE. This great group of people spends time to prepare and present the class to the children of our community in a fun and engaging environment. During fiscal year 2016-2017, we received $67,910.00 in registration fees for Religious Education, an increase of $19,238.00 from 2015-2016. PARISHIONER EMAIL ADDRESS We contact parishioners via email on a more frequent basis making it essential to have a current, updated email address for all parishioners. To update your email address, please call our parish office at 978-663-8816 or write the address on your offertory envelope. Thank you in advance for this very important information.

CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF BILLERICA WEBSITE We invite all to view our website at www.billericacatholic.org where you are able to find up-to-date goings on in our community. From learning about our Pastoral Team, to current events, Mass times, and parish bulletins you are able to find a plethora of information. For information of BCRE (Billerica Catholic Religious Education) please visit www.reled.billericacatholic.org. Also available as a resource for information is our Facebook page (Catholic Community of Billerica) and Instagram (catholiccommunityofbillerica). There s More to it than the Numbers The Annual Financial Report typically presents numbers and there are plenty of those. But there is so much more to the story. Throughout the year we gather together as a community for celebrations, such as welcoming little ones into God s family through baptism. At St. Theresa this year, we welcomed 111 young children into our Catholic family. Through the sacrament of First Holy Communion, children will form a new generation of Catholics who know and love Jesus Christ and live as His disciples in the community of the Catholic Church. In Holy Communion, the bread and wine has been transformed through prayer into the real body of Christ. Here at St. Theresa, 91 children received First Eucharist. Young adults, through the Sacrament of Confirmation, have chosen to grow more deeply in their relationship with Jesus, understanding how the Holy Spirit works in our lives and in the life of the Church. Here at St. Theresa, 56 received the Sacrament of Confirmation this year. Throughout the year we also gathered together to worship, laugh, socialize, learn and give back to others Volunteer Dinner for BCRE We are thankful for all the time and effort our BCRE volunteers put in to help make Billerica Catholic Religious Education a success.

Traveling Miracle Statue of Notre Dame du Cap The statue traveled from Trois Rivieres, Quebec City, Canada, accompanied by the relics of St. André Bessette C.S.C., founder of St. Joseph Oratory, Montreal and Blessed Frederic Janssonne O.F.M., founder of the Shrine of Notre Dame du Cap. St. Paul s Soup Kitchen St. Paul s Soup Kitchen provides meals for the working poor, elderly and families in the community. Volunteers help with the preparation and serving of meals. There are now more than 90 people participating in this ministry. Yankee Doodle Homecoming Yankee Doodle Homecoming is a town wide celebration honoring Billerica s Revolutionary past.

Eric Genuis Concert Eric Genius, composer visited the Catholic Community of Billerica in October of 2016. Eric believes the role of music is to bring hope and healing to the human soul. His compositions appeal to lovers of both classical and contemporary music. With this summary of our Annual Report, the Parish Finance Council thanks you for your continued support of your parish. We welcome your thoughts and comments you may have that might help St. Theresa achieve its financial goals.
