October r, 2015 Twenty Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Two We believers in Jesus acknowledge that He always holds up the ideal for us to follow. He does this to enlighten us, not to frighten us. To illustrate but not to frustrate. To motivate but not to enervate. Any physician of the mind would tell us that we need ideals to admire and goals to shoot for to give added purpose for our lives. It is necessary and spiritually beneficial for divorced persons to remember that they are still valued members of the Church. There is a false idea floating around that divorced people are automatically excommunicated. That is not Church teaching. It is good for each and every follower of Jesus to be well informed of the Church s position and practice on this subject when divorce is so prevalent and false understanding does such harm. The official Catechism gives us the teaching, and the Sunday Eucharist gives us the strength to live it in whatever circumstance we find ourselves in life. Meanwhile, in a culture that has devalued marriage, we have before us a graced opportunity for good Catholic married couples to exemplify by their lives how to live out the Christian brand name conferred on them at Baptism. It is still true, as the hymn puts it, that they will know us by our love. Come to think of it, that s a pretty good brand name slogan, even if the New Testament said it first. Time and time again, the Gospels tell of Christ s healing power. His ability to heal people in mind, body and spirit was one of the principle ways that Jesus manifested his divinity to his followers. The need for healing comes in many forms. It may be due to a physical ailment or an emotional strain. Caregivers themselves, whether physicians or nurses or family members, may be in need of the healing presence of Christ, sacramentally administered in a Mass of Anointing. During this celebration of Christ s healing power, anyone who is weakened by age or illness or has a condition that diminishes their quality of life is invited to receive this sacrament of healing through the laying on of hands and anointing with holy oils, as well as their caregivers. May the power of the Holy Spirit in this sacrament provide comfort, courage, patience and hope to all those who suffer. Anyone who would like to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is asked to call the rectory office at 201-436-0857. Thank you.

St. Henry Parish NEWS Religious Education Page Three The Closing Mass celebration of our 125th Anniversary and the festivities following were heartwarming. Thank you to all who came to Mass and celebrated with Archbishop Hebda and all the priests who have been and are still a part of this wonderful parish of St. Henry! To all who helped before and after Mass to set up, serve and clean up, there are too many names to mention, but I must recognize the Youth of our parish in general! Thanks so very much for all your help! Bishop Tom was smiling down on us bringing the sun and crowds of people. Thank you, Bishop Tom! Thanks to all who donated desserts they were delicious! Thanks to my cousins, Barbara and Keith Cole for their donation of hot dogs and popcorn. Thanks to Don Anthony who provided the music. Thanks to the Fun Bus people who provided so much fun for our children. In retrospect, our year-long celebrations have been filled with joy, fun, faith, community and of course, sadness. Let us continue to rejoice and build this community of St. Henry for at least another 125 years! Thank you from The Pope. Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) classes will begin on Monday, October 5th at 7 PM to 8:30 PM. If you would like to become Catholic and/or receive the Sacraments of Communion and Confirmation, call Marie Pope at 201-339-0319. Our Flea Market, held last Saturday, was another huge success thanks to Barbara Silvay and the help of Joseph & Vinnie Barbarise, David Perez, Derek Toro and Austin O Connell. These guys bring tables and chairs outdoors and then back into the building after the flea market is over. They do a great job while getting their exercise as well. The Flea Market is held on the 3rd Saturday of each month outdoors, in front of St. Henry school (weather permitting) or in the Pine Room (usually November through March). If you are interested in helping us call Barbara Silvay at 201-339-0319 for more information.. Our Religious Education program has begun. This year s theme is Dignity for Every Human Being.
