Foreword This summary of Claude Thomas ("CT") Waidner's ancestors and descendents has been compiled from three primary sources: 1. Email correspondence between CT Waidner and myself, 2. Information available from the LDS Church's family history archives and presently available on the www.familysearch.com web site, and 3. The Waidner family history information gathered and collated by my father, John T. Waidner, Sr. during his retirement. Other sources included some sketchy information at other web sites and from an obituary for Henry P. Bergey, who married Edna R. Waidner. The information available from www.familysearch.com does not directly connect to CT Waidner. That connection was made via a single card found in J. T. Waidner, Sr.'s card file. That card, listing Christian F. Waidner, also listed C. F. Waidner's three children and adopted daughter. The oldest son is Claude Franklin Waidner, who is CT's father. The other two natural children were Dorothy Waidner and Raymond Thomas Waidner. Another bit of evidence linking CT Waidner with Christian F. Waidner is the note on the file card indicating that Christian moved to Sullivan County, Indiana. CT Waidner knew that his father was raised in Sullivan County, thus the connection is much more firmly established. Further evidence is CT Waidner's recollection that his father's sister was known as "Dot", a common nickname for Dorothy. John T. Waidner, Sr. did determine that this Waidner family is not direcly related to his branch of the family and surmised that CT and his ancestors descended from a Louis Waidner who emigrated from Wittemberg, Germany, and settled in Allentown, PA. Wittemberg is near Berlin. J. T. Waidner's family came from Bad Herrenalb, which is in the southern German state of Baden-Württemberg and located south of Karlsruhr in the Black Forrest. My research has confirmed my father's conjectures. One bit of the puzzle is still missing: how did J. T. Waidner, Sr. come by the information now found on the file card? He did not indicate his sources, although the source, in the form of a letter or reference to an archive may yet be found in the voluminous files he left behind. Perhaps that bit of information will eventually surface. I have prepared this family history for CT Waidner and his family as part of my first serious foray into genealogical research. The process was greatly facilitated by the material now available at www.familysearch.com and other on-line sources (e.g., the Bergey obituary). This history is not complete. Further information may come from a visit to a LDS Family History Center or a genealogical library, visits to grave sites, and inspection of Sullivan County records, etc., which I have have not done. Waidner had moved to Sullivan, Indiana, from the Northampton County History of Pennslyvania, Vol. 2, entry for Dr. Charles John Waidner.
