NEWS FROM OUR CHURCHES Bethany: The saints at Bethany began the month with Vacation Bible School. We ministered to 26 children, almost 80% of whom were prospects. We invited them back for a VBS movie night on the 19th. We enjoyed a "First Sunday Summer Hymn Sing" on the evening of the 7th and stayed afterwards for ice cream and fellowship. We celebrated Father's Day with our annual "Men and Boys" breakfast, followed by Sunday School and worship. Bethlehem: We went to Mission Fuge in Clinton, Mississippi from June 8-13!! There were 8 youth and 3 adults, including Pastor Corbett Martin. We went to mission sites every day all over the Clinton area, with youth doing painting and yard work, Backyard Bible Clubs, nursing homes, and thrift stores. Our camp pastor was Matthias Rosbrugh, who is the youth pastor at Noland Road Baptist Church in Independence, MO. Our students were blessed by his sermons and the worship services were amazing!! We had a youth receive Christ, but all grew spiritually and testified in church last Sunday about how the Lord had blessed them through their service to that community and through their experiences in worship and Bible study!! They all want to go back next summer and half our church wants to go too. VBS was held June 21-25. We pray that the fervor and passion we brought home from Fuge will continue and grow in our people!! East Sedalia: VBS was held June 7-12 with 70 children and 35 workers attending. The Director was Sara Harvilla. An offering was taken and $171.00 received. Half of it was donated to Sagrada Scholarship Bible Camp and the other half to Missouri Baptist Children's Home. Ruth Godwin devotes time every summer to help at Sagrada Scholarship Bible Camp at the Lake of the Ozarks. At the business meeting June 14, the church voted to call Rev. Jim Vest as interim pastor. He will be available Sunday mornings and Wednesday afternoons and evenings. The youth held a spaghetti lunch on Sunday, May 31, to help cover expenses for their trip to Falls Creek Camp later this summer. Emmet Avenue: We exceeded our goal for the Orval Woolery Mission Associational Offering. In June we furnished 10 dozen cookies for two weeks for the Jail Ministry. On July 5,we will observe the Lord's Supper. We began to collect items for the Shoe Box ministry. FBC, Sedalia: We went to Forest Avenue Family Shelter in Kansas City on May 30 for a mission day-trip. Our youth prepared and served a meal at Community Café on June 2. Senior Adults went to the Lyceum Theater at Arrow Rock on June 4 to see Les Miserables. We had a great Vacation Bible School June 8 12. VBS Family Day Picnic was June 14, with lots of church and VBS family people enjoying hamburgers, hot dogs, and all the fixin s. The annual Senior Adult Breakfast in the park had to be moved to the church on June 17, due to rain, but a good time was had by all. Marvelous Monday summer events for kids K-6 and Wonderful Wednesday activities for preschoolers started this month. Flat Creek: We celebrated Memorial Day with a fellowship dinner after morning services. The afternoon featured Marlin Brown as our speaker with a special choir as we remembered those who have fought for the freedom we enjoy. Three boys attended Kids Kamp and enjoyed it. We joined with others to pack rice bags for Feed the Kids which will be sent to Haiti. Fathers were recognized on Father's Day. Houstonia: We hosted our Out of School Bash on June 13. The kids had a blast even though it rained most of the day. Our VBS is the week of July 13-17.
