ST. JUDE THE APOSTLE CATHOLIC CHURCH Established 1966 9150 Highland Road Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70810 (On the Corner of Highland Road and Gardere Lane) St. Jude the Apostle Church, as a Catholic Faith Community, strives to spread the love of Christ by embracing our diversity of God-given gifts celebrated in prayer, sacraments, Eucharistic worship, fellowship, religious education, and service to the local and world community. St. Jude Parish Advisory Council: March 15, 2006 Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time August 26 & 27, 2017 A Labor Day Prayer On this weekend, when we rest from our usual labors, loving Father, we pray for all who shoulder the tasks of human labor in the marketplace, in factories and offices, in the professions, and in family living. We thank you, Lord, for the gift and opportunity of work; may our efforts always be pure of heart, for the good of others and the glory of your name. We lift up to you all who long for just employment and those who work to defend the rights and needs of workers everywhere. May those of us who are now retired always remember that we still make a valuable contribution to our Church and our world by our prayers and deeds of charity. May our working and our resting all give praise to you until the day we share together in eternal rest with all our departed in your Kingdom as you live and reign Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. (from the Archdiocese of Detroit) (Fr. Trey will be away on Labor Day. There will be no Mass that day.) The Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time Saturday and Sunday August 26-27, 2017 www.stjudecatholic.org He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter said in reply, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. (From Matthew 16:13-20) Dear Friends, On Tuesday August 15 (the Feast of the Assumption of Mary) we celebrated our first school Mass. Along with welcoming everyone back, I had the privilege of inviting our eighth grade class into the sanctuary at the end of Mass for a special blessing. We thanked God for them, wished them well as the begin their final year here at Saint Jude School, and challenged them to stand strong as leaders in our school. Thanks to Starr Driesse for the photograph to the right! Have a great week! Sincerely, Fr. Trey Nelson Pastor FR. TREY OFFERS A SPECIAL BLESSING OF OUR EIGHTH GRADE CLASS AT THE END OF OUR FIRST SCHOOL MASS ON AUGUST 15, THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION
