7th Sunday of Easter May 28, 2017 Alleluia! Alleluia! These words ring out as we are in Easter Time. Alleluia! Alleluia! Let the anthems ring as we run to tell the Good News! We re kind of in the home-stretch of Easter time, to borrow a racing term, and today s Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord (which is celebrated on the 7 th Sunday of Easter, in many Dioceses in the United States), highlights the transfer of power, so to speak, to the disciples, All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them, teaching them. I am with you. For St. Matthew, Jesus and his disciples are back in Galilee and on Mt. Olivet, which parallels the Moses and Jesus stories, Jesus, of course, representing the New Law and supersedes that of Moses. At this time, we, like the disciples are to reflect on who we are and to act accordingly. On the Ascension Mt. Olivet, Jesus offers them a pep-talk and command, Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them, teaching them. Know that I am with you and trust yourselves. Make disciples of others as I have made disciples of you. So it IS up to you and me, us, to live and love and work and act and be His disciples and to CALL all others to this life of joy and fulfillment. So, receive his gift and his power to be his witnesses and be confident and joyful disciples of the Good News! Happy Memorial Day to all as we celebrate the memory of our Armed Services Personnel, living and deceased in the many Memorial Day Services and Celebrations. Prayers for Peace! Join us at the 9am Mass on Monday to pray for all our Service Personnel, living and deceased. St. Mary s Day School is winding down and our 8 th Graders GRADUATE on Monday evening at 7pm Mass Graduation Ceremony and the students LAST DAY is on Wednesday, June 7 th! We treat all people as children of God. They are our brothers and sisters. We show great respect to them Our work is to encourage these Christians and non- Christians to do works of love. And every work of love, done with a full heart, always brings people closer to God. If they accept God in their lives, then they are a coworker. If they don t, it s the answer. Remember to pray, and to talk about God, Jesus, faith and eternal life often, so children learn the ways and language of faith.

The SMS Sewing Club concluded for the year a couple of weeks ago. The seven participants did a great job this year. They made a pillowcase(s), an apron; pj pants, and ended the year by making dresses that were sent to Fr. Marty for some of the young girls in Kenya. If you would like to see the love of sewing continue to grow, the Club is always looking for new or like new sewing machines, fabric, or notions. You may recall the SMS student body recently held a pop tab collection contest to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. The 7 th and 8 th grade students were the winners and received a pizza party luncheon. Impressively, as a school, we were able fill Mrs. Sam s car and she was able take 381 pounds of tabs to donate. Job well done SMS!! The final Science Club and Math Club activities were also recently held. Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Reinstatler, and Mr. Blum enjoyed working with the students.
