Most Rev. Thomas J. Flanagan Liaison for CCCR Father Bob Hogan, BBD Associate Liaison Pope Francis Calls Us To Be Missionary Disciples and Spirit-Filled Evangelists Pope Francis at the Italian National Charismatic Convocation, July 3-4, 2015, exhorted the Charismatic Renewal: And with Bibles, with the Word of God, go, preach the novelty that Jesus has given us. Preach to the poor, to the marginalized, to the blind, to the sick, to the imprisoned, to all men and women. The Spirit is within everyone who wishes to be helped to open wide the door to make him flourish again. May the Lord accompany you in this mission, always with the Bible in hand, always with the Gospel in your pocket, with the Word of Christ. On the Year of Mercy Pope Francis wrote, In the present day, as the Church is charged with the task of the new evangelization, the theme of mercy needs to be proposed again and again with new enthusiasm and with renewed pastoral action (12) In this Jubilee Year let us allow God to surprise us. He never tires of throwing open the doors of his heart and repeats that he loves us and wants to share his love with us. The Church feels the urgent need to proclaim God s mercy. Her life is authentic and credible only when she becomes a convincing herald of mercy (25). In October we want to grow as proclaimers of Jesus Christ and the mercy of God. We will pray for these graces to grow in us through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. We invite all of you to three special events. You can find more details on separate pages in the newsletter. October 3, 2015: BEING A WITNESS TO JESUS AND GIVING YOUR TESTIMONY A 10 am to 12:30 pm Saturday event at CCCR. This will be a practical session on learning how to share your faith and give your testimony. We will pray that God stirs up evangelization gifts among us. October 16, 2015: Benefit Concert with Dan Duet and Others, Supporting CCCR A Friday evening 7:00 pm Concert at St. Mary Magdalen s Jubilee Hall. Let us sing and rejoice together as God puts the Joy of the Gospel in our hearts, so we say with Mary, My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord. My spirit rejoices in God my savior. October 24, 2015: THE GOSPEL OF JOY AND THE YEAR OF MERCY: WHAT IS POPE FRANCIS TEACHING US ABOUT EVANGELIZATION AND MERCY? A 10 AM TO 12:30 PM Saturday event at CCCR. We will learn about, and discuss, the Pope s Encyclical, The Gospel of Joy, and his declaration on the Year of Mercy. October 2015-Page 2

Pope Francis is asking us to come in unity for a YEAR OF MISSION IN MER- CY. Did you know Pope Francis makes personal phone calls to people like you and I who ask him question? Thank you to all members of the English Service Committee and my dear friend and brother Fr. Bob for all your dedication and love. Love in Christ Jesus! Edward Flores, Co-Chair October 2015-Page 3
