Wreck It Ralph: Introduction Who is Rally Day for? Regular Sunday School attenders Corps people who do not come to Sunday School New people from the community People of all ages! What is Rally Day? Rally Day is sometimes called Homecoming Sunday, Welcome Day, Back to Sunday School, or a variety of other names. It is a special event that happens at the start of a new year of teaching and learning in Sunday School. Its purpose is to: celebrate and draw attention to the importance of Sunday School; renew relationships with regular and former members; show that Sunday school at The Salvation Army is a fun place to learn about Jesus; reach out to and welcome new people to our fellowship of believers; and recognize and honor those who teach and those who learn. When is Rally Day and Why and How Should I Hold It? Rally Day is officially scheduled at the national level for Sunday, September 8, 2013. However, find a time in the fall that best suits your corps schedule. Rally Day helps recapture everyone s attention after a busy summer of distractions and a break from regular programs. It is a way to the signify the beginning of a new Sunday School year and an avenue to promote Sunday School. It is a very adaptable program, and is generally encouraged to be held (at least partially) outside where possible, bringing in those from the community. It can take many approaches including a special united Sunday School program, a united opening and then on to separate classes, an afternoon celebration, or other approaches. These materials are created with an opening and closing assembly and stations in between. We hope you will find these materials helpful in your planning, or at least get some creative thoughts flowing as you come up with your own Rally Day program.

Wreck It Ralph: Devotion Scripture: 2 Kings 7:3-11 whole story 2 Kings 7:3-20 Introduction: Unexpected heroes come out of the most unlikely place. Hero is defined as: a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. How many of you know what leprosy is? noun Pathology. a chronic, mildly infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae, affecting the peripheral nervous system, skin, and nasal mucosa and variously characterized by ulcerations, tubercular nodules, and loss of sensation that sometimes leads to traumatic amputation of the anesthetized part. It s one of those diseases that you do not want to be around. These 4 friends had leprosy and no one wanted to be around them not even their family. So they kicked them out. - Rude!!! So the 4 friends were stuck outside with no warmth, no food and were not ready to die. They were just 4 guys hanging out and now they were kicked out Rude!!! So one of the friends had a brilliant idea! He started to think out loud I don t know about you, but I do that sometimes and often it s not that great my husband calls it train skipping. So he is thinking out loud this is what he is thinking: If we go home there is a famine (no food or water) we will die. If we stay here (camp) no food or water, doesn t sound like they had great survival skills we will die. SO!! We should go to our enemy s camp if they kill us, we are going to die anyway but if they spare us WE LIVE!!! Whoot Whoot! His friends were like WHAT?! You crazy! But as they thought about it they did not think they had too many choices to go with so they said, let s do this thing! So the 4 friends started sneaking slowly, gently, walking toward the camp. As they got into their enemy s camp they even got quieter. Sneaking Sneaking Sneaking Sweating Sweating Sweating Shhhing Shhhing Shhhing

All the while: The enemy s camp Aramean s was abundant in all the good stuff. Food Water Gold Linen The night the 4 friends started to sneak into the camp the Arameans were living it up. It was about dinner time so they had all their good food, silver, gold decorating the tables and linen they were going to wait out the famine on their enemies the Israelites (that s what the 4 friends were) (that is like nationalities Alaska Native, Marshallese, Pilipino, Hispanic, Japanese, Korean.you get it) that way they would die and none of the Arameans would. Not a bad plan, except God uses unexpected people to make miracles happen every day. See as the 4 friends were sneaking the Arameans heard something completely different than what the 4 friends heard. As the 4 friends were sneaking, sweating and shhhing, the Arameans heard: Loud thunderous horses Loud squeaking wheels from chariots like lightening Metal hitting Metal swords bumping against armor Men screaming and yelling as they attack Without confirming all the facts, they were believing a lie always seek the truth. The Arameans took off like scared little birds you know when you run through a bunch a birds sitting on the ground and they take off when you run through them. You haven t done that? You need to give it a go it s pretty cool. By the time the 4 friends got to the camp no one was there. So they looked around, checked out the tents and said, shoot, I m hungry, let s eat. So they ate and started taking the gold now stealing is not okay, but let s keep going with our story. As the 4 friends ate and gathered their plunder they began to think to themselves What about our friends and family back home? They are in the famine and may die because of the lack of food and water. Let s get them. Even after being kicked out of their homes and families they understood why, but it still hurt they were forgiving and went back and told the king that the enemies, Arameans, were gone. The 4 friends who trusted God allowed God to use them. 2 Kings 7:6 it clearly states the Lord caused the Arameans to hear the sound of chariots and horses and a great army. God uses unexpected things and people to fulfill his plan. Philippians 1:6 states being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Even if we think of ourselves as someone no one wants God has bigger plans for us. You never know how He will use you. This verse tells us that God will continually work on us until we meet Jesus face to face. There is good and there is bad we need to choose to do good. Ralph did not see himself as a hero he actually did not think of himself very highly. He thought, Why doesn t anybody like me? There must be something wrong with me. He thought a medal made him a better person and that people would like him when in all reality, it was his kind heart and choosing to do what is right. We need to practice the Fruit of the Spirit Galatians 5:21-23. 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. God will use us He will use you, because He s not done with you yet. He loves you.

Wreck It Ralph: Station Rotation Group Leaders: Please rotate with your group and keep them participating. The groups will be subject to change in regards to age as it is preferable to keep the number of young people equal so the groups are not too large in one and to small in the other. A good way to separate groups is by age or grade. Older (teens) Middle Younger Rotation 1: CLASS ACTIVITY LOCATION LEADER NOTE: Craft Activity Packet Games Relay Games Snack Candy Car Rotation 2: CLASS ACTIVITY LOCATION LEADER NOTE: Craft Activity Packet Games Relay Games Snack Candy Car Rotation 3: CLASS ACTIVITY LOCATION LEADER NOTE: Craft Activity Packet Games Relay Games Snack Candy Car Game: Make a track on the basketball court, in the gym, or in a wide open area and put up cones along with a start and finish line. The main relay race is to get on a big wheel and ride the track. They get the chance to simulate the Sugar Rush race from the movie! Add in other relay race ideas that you enjoy. Craft: See the attached activity sheets related to Wreck-It-Ralph.

Wreck It Ralph: Snack Crafty Snack with Candy: Wreck-It Ralph Candy Race Cars from www.formulamom.com. While visiting the Disney Animation Studio to learn more about Wreck-It Ralph, I had to opportunity to get crafty in honor of the world of Sugar Rush featured in the film. Crafts with candy are always fun to make (and eat) so creating a Sugar Rush inspired race car was a blast! It s a great way to bring the film home with your kids! Sugar Rush is the fictional racing game that Ralph visits during the movie. It s inspired by all things sweet! The cars and race tracks are made of candy and other sweet treats! If you ve ever played a racing video game and enjoyed it, then Sugar Rush is the game for you! While I was in Los Angeles, I was challenged to create my own Sugar Rush inspired candy car using actual food! Stock Up on Candy for a Sugar Rush The key to successful candy race cars is providing a variety of candy. At the Disney Animation Studio we had everything from peppermints and mallowcreme pumpkins to Sour Patch kids and gumdrops. The variety of was amazing and allowed everyone to be as creative as they wanted to be. We also had a variety of cookies and frosting to help everything stick! Recommended supplies: Paper plates Plastic knives Toothpicks Cake frosting Graham crackers Variety of other cookies Marshmallows Variety of candy

Candy Car Design While candy car design is a very personal activity, I quickly discovered that certain supplies were very helpful when it came to building a solid structure for my car. Many of us used graham crackers as a base. Then it started to go in entirely different directions. I decided to use marshmallows for a type of wheel axle. Providing candy and cookies of different shapes and sizes is key to success with this project. We had a great variety so the options allowed everyone to really get thinking. After considering Life Savers and Oreos, I settled on peppermint patties for my wheels. I may have snacked on one while designing as well. Every great designer needs inspiration and a snack, right? I used some cake frosting to attach my wheels to the base of my car. I was on the right track and then it was time to build up the body of my car. I had to be careful because wheels made with peppermint patties actually try to roll. Don t say I didn t warn you! Building the body and plotting a great design was the most challenging part. There were so many goodies on the table to choose from that I had some trouble. I cannot imagine what the art directors go through when trying to narrow down the design options for a world like Sugar Rush. There is just so much inspiration out there! Once I got started, the ideas just started rolling! From headlights to hubcaps, I was having a great time. It definitely brought out the kid in me. We all need that from time to time. I think that s what I love about Wreck-It Ralph! It really brings out the kid in everyone. The film offers a little something for every member family! Sugar Rush Candy Car Showcase As you can see, everyone might have had the same supplies to work with but the possibilities were endless! There were some amazing cars on the table when all was said and done. I m pretty sure everyone had a blast making them too! Just make sure you get the entire family (or all of the friends) to help clean up when it s all said and done! It is on the messy side but that is part of the fun!
