Whatever you re working on, our parish is offering another opportunity one which will help you exercise and grow spiritually The Ignatian Way. For the next couple of months, the topic for our first and second Wednesdays will, most appropriately, focus on St. Ignatius. This incredible man founded the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and throughout the centuries has become a type of spiritual director to the masses. His The Spiritual Exercises, a work which contains meditations and prayers, challenges us to see God in all things, not only as we pray but as we work, as we play, as we love, as we live. Please join us 1 st Wednesday Talks: Februrary 1 st, Father Don Williams will examine Ignatian Prayer. April 5 th, Father Malloy from Scranton University will focus on St. Ignatius as a reflection of his spirituality. May 3 rd, Rabbi Kaplan will discuss Jewish practices and spirituality. As always no registration is needed: come to one, come to all. Retreat: Beginning in late February for those wishing more direction in the Ignatian Way, we will host a six week retreat which will guide us in using his exercises. Each week participants will be assigned short readings to help them develop a closer relationship with God. All parishioners are invited to participate. ECUMENICAL CELEBRATION OF GOD S WORD The Diocese of Scranton will again participate in the worldwide Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which is celebrated each year in January. The Diocese of Scranton will host an Ecumenical Celebration of God s Word on Wednesday, January 25th at 12:10 PM in the Cathedral of St. Peter, Scranton. There will be no 12:10 PM Mass that day in the Cathedral. All are welcome to attend. In addition, CTV: Catholic Television will broadcast the service live. The Most Reverend Joseph C. Bambera, D.D., J.C.L., Bishop of Scranton, will preside, and Rev. Dr. Robert Zanicky of First Presbyterian Church in Wilkes-Barre will deliver the homily. Clergy and various representatives from various Christian traditions and ecumenical agencies will be present. Liturgical music will be provided by St. Clare/St. Paul School. If you enter the Church without informing the office staff, the police respond when the alarm goes off and our parish is charged $25.00. We appreciate your sensitivity to this circumstance. WINTER BAKE SALE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED After our weekend Masses on January 28th-29th, Mary s Ministry will host a bake sale to help support our work in the parish. Volunteers are also needed to help with selling in the vestibules at the Church and Chapel. PRO-LIFE BABY SHOWER - JANUARY 21-22 TO FEBRUARY 4-5 Mary s Ministry annual Pro-Life Baby Shower will be held January 21-22 to February 4-5. Boxes will be located in the back of the Church and Chapel for donations for new and nearly new baby clothing, sleepers, blankets, baby wipes, washcloths and bath items. There is an ongoing need especially for diapers. Items need not be wrapped. Baby seats and furniture meeting safety standards may also be accepted. Page 8 S E R V I C E H E L P I N G O T H E R S MOTHER TERESA S HAVEN VOLUNTEERS WELCOME St. Ignatius Parish will be hosting Mother Teresa s Haven in Conlan Hall for two weeks in late January and early February (January 30 through February 12), and then again for one week in mid September (September 11 through September 17). We are currently looking for different sponsor groups to plan, supply, and cook meals for each of the 21 nights across these two sessions. In addition, we welcome any individuals who can help support the work of Mother Teresa s Haven on any of the scheduled nights from helping with kitchen prep, to serving, to sharing fellowship with our guests, to dishwashing and cleaning up. Sponsor groups (usually 4 to 6 people per group) cover all aspects of their given night, from planning the meal, to shopping for food, to cooking and serving the meal, to cleaning up. Dinner is served at 5:30 each night, and clean up is usually completed by around 8:00. Members from volunteer groups who are cooking the meal that evening should plan to arrive earlier as needed for food preparation. Individuals who want to offer supplemental support (from kitchen prep through clean up) on any given night are always welcome. We welcome and invite any food donations parishioners might be able to offer in support of this ministry. Breads and homemade desserts are especially welcome. We extend a special welcome and invitation to those who have never had the chance to support and participate in Mother Teresa s Haven and would like to become involved this time around. We wish to thank all of our parishioners who have already volunteered and served in support of this ministry! Thank you for all that you do for and on behalf of St. Ignatius Parish!
