St Helena s Church Kirmington Louise Vincer who worked among our churches came and spoke at Coffee Break Praise in March. Louise talked about the work The Mother s Union has done in educating women in countries where most women are illiterate. It was good to see Louise. The next Coffee Break Praise is April 16 th. Unfortunately the Sunday service in March had to be cancelled as there was no priest available to take communion service. The snow drops in front of the War Memorial have looked lovely over the last few weeks. Many thanks to Grace and Paul for planting them. PLEASE support the fashion show on Friday 26 th April at Kirmington Bowls Club 7pm for 7:30. Tickets are just 3.00 including refreshments. They are available from 4 High Street or pay at the door. Soon it will be Easter. Please come to the service of music, hymns and prayers suitable for Good Friday. If not for Easter If not for Easter The chaos of this world Would be all there is And all there ever would be. If not for Easter The unfairness of life Would drive us to despair. But God sent his son To give eternal life Filled with peace, happiness And unimaginable blessings To those who choose Him. All we have to do is choose Him. Happy Easter By Joanna Fuchs

Official opening of the Playground in Kirmington Richard Stansfield of Singlton Birch has very kindly agreed to officially open the playground. This will take place on Monday the 6 th May at 2:00pm. It is intended that there will be various attractions including a Fire Engine, stalls, games, vintage cars, food etc. A day for all the villagers and their families to enjoy. There will be posters put in the villages of Kirmington and Croxton later. It would be nice to see as many people there as possible (not just children) to celebrate this wonderful achievement. Duchess of Cambridge Being Chief of Humberside fire and rescue service has its ups and downs! The downs include trying to run a first class service whilst having my budget cut by 6.5m. The ups however more than compensate for the tricky bits. One of the biggest ups was the surprise visit by the Duchess of Cambridge to Peaks Lane Fire Station in Grimsby. I was first told of the visit about two weeks ago and sworn to secrecy by the Royal Protection Squad. I regarded it as my duty to host the Duchess but sadly I had to keep the official party to a minimum because of security. Sorry Anne! The Duchess was coming to see the young people who we coach on behalf of the Princes Trust and also the Grimsby Fire-fighters. March 5 th dawned cold and misty and the Duchess s flight almost had to be diverted from Humberside Airport. However Kirmington came good and the weather cleared so she was only an hour late. After greeting her I was able to have a few minutes alone with her. I explained that she had landed near my home village and I brought her greetings and best wishes of the Parish Council and residents of Kirmington. She asked me to convey her thanks and good wishes to you and promised to take a close look at the village when she flew out. I escorted Her Royal Highness throughout the visit which lasted an hour. She spent time with the Princes Trust Team, the Fire-fighters and their families. She confided in me that she wanted to be like Bridgette Jones and slide down the fireman s pole, but we agreed that now wasn t the right time. I was also with her when she almost gave away her big secret. She later told me she was having a sorry, I m sworn to secrecy! So what was she like? Forget the media hype about how lovely she is, she is far better than that! She is a beautiful woman who clearly has a sense of duty. She puts those who she meets at ease and makes them feel the centre of attention. Wherever she went she made people smile, I have never seen so many beaming fire-fighters! Meeting the Duchess was a pleasure and an honour and as a proud resident of Kirmington it gave me great pleasure to involve our village, if only in a small way, into her itinerary.
