Knight Times Monthly Newsletter of the Great 799 April 2013 Volume 110, Issue 4 Dallas Council 799 Knights of Columbus 10110 Shoreview Road Dallas, Texas 75238 Chaplain s Message By Fr. Josef Vollmer-König Dear brother Knights. We just completed Holy Week. The week that reminds us of the ultimate love OUR LORD Jesus has for us. He challenges us as His followers to pick up our cross and to love one another as He loves us. Following Him leads us to the resurrection. Alleluia, He is Risen! Today (for fifty days) we celebrate Life. Christ, who was crucified, died on the Cross for our sins, was buried. He is alive. We celebrate the resurrection of Our Lord. This is the triumph of Jesus over death, death to sin. Three days after His sacrificial death on the cross, Christ is risen! Christ s body is glorified, not restricted by time or space. Death, where is your sting? This Feast is the culmination of the life and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. For this reason, each day from Easter until the first Sunday of Easter is Easter day. St. Paul tells us in 1 Cor. 15:14, And if Christ has not been raised, then empty (too) is our preaching; empty, too, your faith. The many symbols of Easter, the Fire, Easter Candle, Baptismal Water, remind us of our Baptism. We are reminded that in baptism we die with Christ. We also rise with Him. As Baptized people, we are a Resurrection people. For this reason, there should always be joy in our Hearts and a smile on our faces. The Church celebrates the Easter feast for fifty days. A blessed Easter, Fr. Josef Grand Knight s Letter By Mike Hill Greetings to my Brother Knights: Vivat Jesus! We've just completed Lent. We have a new Pope! And one of our core parishes (St. Patrick's) just celebrated its 50th Anniversary/Birthday on March 17. We have a lot to be joyous about. The Great 799 continues to display its fine work in conjunction with these events. We just completed a successful Fish Fry fundraiser held every Friday in Lent. Look for a report soon on monies deposited into the Charity account as a result of this key fundraiser. Kudos to numerous Knights (too numerous to mention here but you know who you are) for their help in making this event a success - yes, we figured out the slaw. I'd be remiss if I did not give a shout out to one of our brothers who is not living in this state anymore. The great and Most Reverend Bishop Michael Duca made the trek from his new home diocese in Shreveport, LA to celebrate St. Pat's 50th soiree. He was on the altar with our Brother and Most Reverend Bishop Kevin Farrell and our Worthy Chaplain Fr. Josef. In all, there was something in the neighborhood of 4 bishops and 7 priests and a few deacons sprinkled in on the altar for the celebratory mass, while numerous 799 brothers were downstairs cooking lunch for what had to be 500-700 folks at least. 799 was well represented in the mass attendance also. A couple of April events to highlight - The Bishop's Pro Life Dinner is scheduled for Saturday, April 6, the KC 799 Golf Tournament is slated for a 1 p.m. shotgun start on Friday, April 19, and another Blood Drive will occur on Saturday, April 27. In closing, let's all keep Pope Francis in our prayers as he embarks on his journey in leading the church. As always, you and your families are in my prayers. They don't come much better than Frank Macaluso and Frank Gray. Brother Macaluso recently celebrated his 50th year as a knight. In addition to all his years of service and brotherhood, he is responsible each month for helping to set up the meeting room for the Council 799 Monthly General Meeting. What is usually a thankless job deserves a big "Thank You". Another KOTM and 799 workhorse is Frank Gray. Brother Gray keeps care of the 799 prayer list and lets us know which Brother Knights are sick or deceased. He is also the gentleman you see bussing tables and hawking raffle tickets during the Fish Fry. It's best to just say yes to Frank Gray and buy your raffle tickets now. You may be the winner of a 2013 Ford F-150 Pickup Truck or your choice of a 2013 Ford Mustang. Thanks Franks! Vocation Chalice Program Please continue to volunteer for our Vocation Chalice program.
