Page Two St. André Bessette Parish, Malone, New York Welcome to St. André s Parish! No matter who you are, where you ve come from, or what brings you here, we re so glad to have you with us. St. André Bessette (1845-1937) spent much of his life serving as the doorkeeper of his religious community; like him, we strive to open doors for our neighbors to experience the loving mercy of God. May Jesus fill your heart with his grace and peace! From Fr. Joe. How did it get to be the end of November already?!? The end of November brings us to the end of the Nazarite Challenge (a Catholic version of no shave November ). I've seen an increase in bearded faces in the congregation this month and they re not all on men I know to be avid hunters. It s last minute notice (because of the Thanksgiving holiday, our bulletin deadlines were bumped up), but Fr. Scott and I would like to invite any and all Nazarites of the parish (and their whiskers) to gather this Sunday afternoon (November 26). We'll start with Vespers at 4:00pm in Notre Dame Church, then move over to the rectory next door for drinks and snacks (we ll provide em). And of course, we ll want to take a group picture before you start shaving again. (If any guys are worried about missing a Sunday football game, our cable bill is paid up and we d be happy to put it on for you!) This Thursday, November 30, the feast of St. Andrew, we re honored to host an Operation Andrew holy hour and dinner for the diocese. It s not too late to sign up (see details elsewhere in this bulletin). And please pray for vocations to the priesthood! Our 2017 Bishop s Fund total is slowly climbing but we ve still got a way yet to go. I can t encourage you strongly enough to support all the good work provided by this annual appeal. Gifts can be made online at https://payment.rcdony.org. Visit Fr. Joe's blog: http://fromemptyhands.blogspot.com/ Prayer to St. Michael As some may recall, this prayer, written by Pope Leo XIII (1810-1903), was prayed after Mass for many years. We would do well to ask once again for the protection of the leader of heaven s armies in these turbulent and uncertain times. Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. In this month dedicated to prayer for the Holy Souls, we reflect upon THE FOUR LAST THINGS I. Death II. Judgment III. Heaven IV. Page Five St. André Bessette Parish, Malone, New York November 26, 2017 Sacrament of Baptism Parents who wish to have a child baptized should contact Rev. Joseph Giroux to make arrangements for the date and for a program of preparation. Parents are highly encouraged to make arrangements at least three months before the child is born, as the Catholic Church encourages Baptism for infants as soon as possible after birth. Adults and older children (seven years or older) interested in Baptism or entering into full communion with the Catholic Church should inquire about the program of preparation (R.C.I.A.: the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). Sacrament of Matrimony A Catholic wishing to be married in one of our churches should contact one of the priests at least six months prior to the desired date in order to begin making arrangements. A program of preparation is required. The parish should be contacted before any other plans are made for example, the wedding reception. Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick For those preparing for surgery, nursing home residents, or the homebound, contact one of the parish priests to make arrangements to be anointed. For those in the hospital (especially in the event of an emergency), ask the hospital staff to contact the priest on call.. STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE The bulletin was sent to print early due to the holiday. The collection amount for 11/19 will be printed next week. If you d like to contribute to St. André s Parish electronically one time only or monthly, either from your checking account or credit card you can now do so directly from the parish website: standres.org.
