A Word From Our Parish Director Today s readings from proverbs is part of the instructions given to King Lemuel by his mother. She encourages him to care for the poor and be a champion for the needy. This poem presents the perfect wife as an example of goodness worth more than rubies. She is called to look beyond the home, reaching out to the poor and needy. The text is traditionally recited by Jewish men to their wives on Sabbath evenings, and is often part of funeral services for women. Our Gospel today takes the theme of the old testament reading and renews it for us today. We are called to be prepared, working according to one s capability, faithfulness, and taking responsibility. As the King in Proverbs was reminded we are called to look beyond our selves and reach out to the poor and needy. As we approach Thanksgiving, let us be mindful of the mother s message to the King, that we find in today s readings. Have a great Thanksgiving as we prepare for the season of Advent. FOOD PANTRY GIVING TREE The Giving Tree with names of children from Hortonville/Dale Food Pantry families are in the Gathering Space beginning this weekend. We are asking you to leave your gifts unwrapped. (Donations of wrapping paper and scotch tape would be appreciated.) The unwrapped gifts can be put in a gift bag or in a paper or plastic bag, with the child s gift card tied to the bag. Each child has three cards on the tree. Two are for clothing and one is for fun. If you purchase clothing, please include a gift receipt. The fun card could list up to three items. These are suggestions from the families and you do not have to purchase all three items. Just pick out the one you want to donate. You may take as many cards from the tree as you like. Presents should be brought back to church and put under the tree. Gifts need to be back to Ss. Peter and Paul by Sunday, December 3rd, in order to be distributed in time for Christmas. The families are very thankful for your generosity. Your help brings joy to their Christmas. ***This year we will also be collecting new socks, mittens/ gloves, and hats. (Any size) A basket will be located near the tree in the gathering space for the socks, mittens and hats. If you have any questions, call the parish office at 779-6133.
