Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church Fr. Tony O Neill, Pastor 2385 Commerce Blvd. Mound, MN 55364 952-472-1284 ourladyofthelake.com 2 nd Sunday of Advent December 4 th, 2016 Therefore, every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. Dear Brothers and Sisters, - Matthew 3:10 In our Gospel for this second Sunday of Advent, we encounter the figure of John the Baptist. John the Baptist was the Lord s forerunner, the one who was sent to be the one crying out in the wilderness. The scriptures tell us that John was sent by God to be a witness a witness to the light. He witnessed about the light of the world - Christ himself. His message was clear as he cried out, Prepare the way of the Lord. This was his message to the Jewish people - to prepare for the coming messiah, Jesus Christ. John would say of Jesus, Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. The words of John the Baptist speak also to us in this season. We are called to prepare a place for Jesus Christ in our lives and in our hearts. This weekend we are honored to have Archbishop Hebda visit us. I am very grateful that he is here. Let s give him a rousing welcome and show our appreciation for his ministry. God bless, Fr. Tony Please keep the Drop Off Zone on Commerce Boulevard (by Door # 1) clear on Saturdays & Sundays prior to Mass. This will allow volunteers who are dropping off individuals who are in need of a ride to Mass due to mobility issues to easily gain access to the building. Thank you for your cooperation! PennyWise Thrift Store 50% off all clothing except specially marked items (oval racks, etc.) Tuesday, Dec. 6 th, Wednesday, Dec. 7 th and Friday, Dec. 9 th LIGHT FOR THE WEEK: In today s Gospel, there s an urgency in John s call to repentance. John teaches about Jesus baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire. Each of us were most likely baptized many years ago. The grace of our baptism continues. We have a vocation to follow Jesus in the Holy Spirit and fire. We pray for those in need. May the Lord comfort them in their time of sickness and bless those who care for them. Please keep the following individuals in your prayers: Chris A., Bob Blake, Tim Daly, Dan Entinger, Kathy Gnitka, Marilyn Nelson, Andra Olson, Lee Olson, Maddie Poranski, Bobby Reil, and Adam Richardt We pray for those in the Military: Travis B., Nicholas J., and Darrell V. Mass Intentions Offering a Mass for a specific intention dates back to the very early days of the Church. (Inscriptions have been found in catacombs dating back to the second century.) Intentions are requested most frequently for the souls of the deceased, but can also be in thanksgiving for a benefit received, or for a living person, such as on a birthday. The purpose of special intentions relates to the graces that flow from the Sacrifice of the Mass. The Eucharistic prayers address the communion of saints, those who have already made it to heaven, and those of us who are still pilgrims on this earth. All together, as the Body of Christ, we ask for the intercession of the saints to obtain these special graces for the identified person with the goal of attaining eternal life in heaven with God. If you would like to honor a loved one with a Mass Intention, please stop by the Church Office. 3
