From the Desk of Fr. Chris... Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, They say laughter is the best medicine. With all the sad things happening in our country lately, I think we could all use an extra dose of this medicine. My sister emailed this to me. Some of us may have read it already, but it still cracks me up. I m just glad none of these bulletin errors was taken from our bulletin. Church Bulletin Misprints (purportedly taken from actual church bulletins): The sermon this morning: "Jesus Walks on the Water." The sermon tonight: "Searching for Jesus." Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Remember to bring your husbands. The peacemaking meeting scheduled for today has been canceled due to a conflict. Smile at someone who is hard to love. Say "Hell" to someone who doesn't care much about you. For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery downstairs. Next Thursday there will be tryouts for the choir. They need all the help they can get. Scouts are saving aluminum cans, bottles and other items to be recycled. Proceeds will be used to cripple children. Low Self Esteem Support Group will meet Thursday at 7 PM. Please use the back door. Please place your donation in the envelope along with the deceased person you want remembered. The eighth-graders will be presenting Shakespeare's Hamlet in the Church basement Friday at 7 PM. The congregation is invited to attend this tragedy. And finally, Don't let worry kill you off - let the Church help! Peace and joy in Jesus Christ, Fr. Chris TODAY S READINGS First Reading -- The woman who fears the LORD is to be praised (Proverbs 31:10-31). Psalm 128-- Blessed are those who fear the Lord Second Reading -- Brothers and sisters, you are children of the light (1 Thessalonians 5:1-6). Gospel -- To all those who have, more will be given, and they will have an abundance (Matthew 25:14-30). WORLD MISSION SUNDAY Thank you for your generous support on World Mission Sunday. Our parish raised $3,070.00. While only some are called to go to the Missions to serve, all of us are called, by our Baptism, to support the Church s missionary work by our prayers and financial help. To continue answering this call, visit MISSIO.org. SHARING OUR GIFTS Autumn is the season for harvesting and sharing the fruits of our labors. This week's scriptures use images of the harvest, family life, pregnancy, and investment to describe the abundant harvest in the reign of God. We discover that sharing the gifts we have been given brings eternal rewards for everyone. In the Gospel parable a master entrusts his possessions to three servants before going on a journey. Each is given some talents. What they do with those talents determines what the master will do with them when he returns. How about us? What are we doing with our talents? How will our Master treat us when he returns? Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. Your contribution is essential to our efforts to alleviate human suffering and ease the burdens of overwhelming poverty overseas. It is clear to me that you are as compassionate as the Good Samaritan in the Gospels of Jesus Christ. Rest assured your good deed is a godsend to our most vulnerable brothers & sisters around the world. We are blessed to have you as a member of the CRS family. I am inspired that you have chosen to reach far beyond the bounds of your own community to care for perfect strangers in such great need.
