FROM THE TEE BOX A Few Thoughts from Our Pastor Dear Friends: From the Tee Box! February 7-8, 2015 The Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time from10 years to believe it or not 70 years! What an amazing and happy celebration of new life! I offer my special thanks to Charmaine Biossat (our Director of Ministries), our Marriage Encounter Ministry, and all those who assisted with the Mass and the reception that followed. It was truly something special for me to be a part of that moment. T-minus 10 days and counting till the beginning of Lent, that is. Don t wait until the last minute to start thinking about a goal that you might wish to set for this upcoming holy season! I am looking forward to being with you for all 3 of our Masses on Ash Wednesday, February 18th. When we are all signed on the forehead with ashes that day, the words will be, turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel. May God strengthen all of us in this task. Last weekend, along with the usual activities, I had the opportunity to be part of two beautiful celebrations of new life. On Saturday morning many of us gathered at St. Aloysius Church for the funeral Mass of Father Than Vu, the pastor of that parish and Vicar General for our diocese. Father Vu passed from us after a lengthy struggle with cancer. Bishop Muench offered the homily, and in attendance were Archbishop Hughes (retired, New Orleans) and Bishop Shelton Fabre (bishop of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodeaux.) Several priests, deacons, religious, and laity filled the church as we said farewell to our brother. It was, no doubt, a very emotional moment but one of celebration. I know that we are all proud and privileged to have known and served with such a good man. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. Later that day, during our 4:00pm Vigil Mass, we celebrated World Marriage Day here at Saint Jude. More than 50 couples sat together at Mass and renewed their vows following the homily. Anniversaries being celebrated that day ranged As we near the start of Lent you will be hearing more about our Tuesday Evening Time-outs, to be held on 3 consecutive Tuesdays in Lent. The evenings will consist of 5:30pm Mass, followed by a guest speaker, and then a simple meal of soup and bread in the parish hall. Sincerely, Fr. Trey Nelson Pastor Mark Your Calendars Now Lenten Tuesday Evening Time-Outs! February 24 March 3 March 10 Mass (5:30pm) Guest Speaker (in Church) Soup and Bread Meal (Parish Hall)
