November 7, 2012 10:45 10:50 Saint Scavenger Hunt Schedule Take attendance and then proceed to the chapel for a short prayer service before you begin the scavenger hunt. 10:55 11:05 Reflections of the Saints. A copy of the Guided Meditation is in your mailbox. In the chapel will be the Communion of Saints Prayer cards. At the end of the meditation everyone is to say this prayer together. Please pass out a card to each student so that students can read the prayer. Have each student take their prayer card with them when they leave the chapel. 11:10-11:15 Give each member in your group a cross key chain.(please do not hand out until outside the chapel after prayer service). They are in your mailbox along with an envelope that contains scavenger hunt directions, search clues, saint biographies and a map of BT. Let students know they will be learning about different saints and searching for their prayer cards. They can start by adding their Communion of Saints Prayer Card to their key chain. 11:15 11:45 Scavenger Hunt Don t Rush! The students tend to want to race from location to location to get the next card. There is plenty of time to collect all the cards and come back to the cafeteria for other Saint activities. This should be a time of active discussion to teach the students about the saints. 11:45 12:00 Return to class for additional activities General Directions: Each class will search for saints (saint cards) based on the clues given. All the 5 th grade classes will be on their own scavenger hunt at the same time. Keep copies of the saints biographies (in your packet) with you during the hunt. Read the clue to your group. Ask for their input about possible places in the school to look. You will know the answer (they are located under the clue) but allow them time to suggest things. Remind them to walk in the halls and no screaming. Each class will have clues for 5 saints. Please go in order of your Saints. We want to make sure no two classes end up at the same location at the same time. Once you arrive, read the biographies or talk briefly about the saint at each location. This is a good time to ask questions about patron saint or feast day? The cards will be in bags marked with your PSR time and Teachers Last Name in small print. Take the holy cards at that location and give ONE to each member of your group so they can add it to their key chain. Each class has a different bag, make sure you pick up the right one. Back in Classroom: 1. Saint Bingo game will be available. Some of the questions in the bingo game maybe a little difficult for the 5 th graders. Turn the questions into statements and feel free to give answers. 2. Saint Crossword and Word Search will be available as well.
