Welcome to Cantor Larisa A verbakh Temple Beth-EI is pleased to welcome Cantor Larisa Averbakh to our congregation as our new student cantor. Cantor A verbakh is a fourth year student at the Hebrew Union College - School of Sacred Music in New York. Cantor Averbakh is a native of St. Petersburg, Russia and holds degrees from the Rimsky Korsakov ConserVatory of Music in classical singing, the Leningrad Technological Institute in chemical engineering and the Petersburg Jewish University in Judaica and Hebrew. Cantor A verbakh has served a number of congregations induding Temple Emanu-EI in San Francisco and most recently Temple Israel in West Lafayette, Indiana. Cantor Averbakh has performed recitals of Jewish art and folk songs in Hebrew, Yiddish and Ladino throughout the former USSR, Finland, Hungry and the United States. In 1997, she recorded a collection of Yiddish songs entitled, "Shnirele Perele," and she also published a series of Hebrew and Yiddish song collections, entitled "Songs of the Jewish Holidays." Temple Beth-EI is privileged to have Cantor Larisa Averbakh join our congregation. We hope that you will come to services on Friday, September 8 when we will formally welcome her to the Temple during our Shabbat evening services at 8 p.m. Prospective Members Shabbat On Friday evening, September 22, the Membership Committee is sponsoring a special Shabbat Service to which they are inviting anyone who is interested in joining our congregation. The best resource for new Temple members is you - the members of our congregation. Invite your friends and neighbors, who do not belong to a Temple, to accompany you to services that evening. This will be a wonderful opportunity to introduce them to our clergy and to the congregation.
