DECEMBER 1: FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT There is an Advent spirit in the heart of every human person. It is one of longing, of yearning for a fulfillment that somehow lies beyond ourselves; for we long for the coming of the Lord. As you consider a gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, your heart will discover the true meaning of Christmas as you help those who are suffering and poor to long for the coming of the Lord. We don't often think of the liturgy in terms of justice, but this Advent season is imbued with it. One day, Christ will return in his glory to judge all the world. Our preparation for his return is to live the faith we profess and to act in charity toward all our brothers and sisters. Justice will prevail when we show the love of Christ each day in all our deeds. MEMORIAL BLOCKS ARE STILL AVAILABLE: There are Memorial Blocks which surround the St. Patrick statue in the courtyard that are available for engraving. Each block is 16 by 24 with three lines; each having a maximum of thirty letters and/or spaces. These blocks are permanently laid in the floor of the courtyard and provide for a lasting memorial for your family or for loved ones. Currently the donation amount for each block is $500. Due to engraving costs the donation amount for the blocks will go up to $1,000 after the first of the year. Get your order in early. This would make a great Christmas gift. If interested please call Cindy at the parish office. Installments are available. JOURNEY THROUGH SCRIPTURE: GENESIS TO JESUS Wondering how to build off of the great parish mission we had with Fr. Scott Courtney? Wondering what would make a good New Year's resolution? Wondering what to do with your Monday nights when football is done? The answer is the same for all these questions! Join us for a new Bible Study beginning Monday, January 13, at 7:00pm in the Parish Center! This 7-week study called Journey Through Scripture: Genesis to Jesus, is published by Dr. Scott Hahn and the St. Paul Institute for Biblical Theology. Deacon Sean will be presenting this exciting study that takes us through the covenants God made with His people, from Adam all the way through the New Covenant in Jesus Christ! Don't have a Bible? We've got one for you! Don't drive at night? Let us know and we'll make arrangements! Need child care? Let us know and we'll make arrangements for that, too! At Deacon Sean's previous parish, a 95 year old woman participated in this study and said, "I've never studied the Bible before. It's time I got started!" Maybe it's time for you to get started, or go deeper, too! Contact the parish office to sign up!
