October 10, 2010 Dear friends- I know that those on our parish mailing lists have received our letter concerning our Grand Annual collection. A number of you have already responded with your donations, and for that I am most grateful. Hopefully, our appeal letter reflected some of our financial needs here at St. Timothy s, but I also hope it conveyed my deep appreciation for the many ways you support our parish throughout the year. Recently, I saw a report that in the Archdiocese of Boston one third of the parishes are in debt; one third are just breaking even; and one third are in the black. I am happy to report that we are in that third category, and you are to be commended for your dedication and support of your parish. If you have not received an appeal letter, there are additional copies as you exit church. Also, if you did not get a letter, it may mean that you are not on the mailing list or that there is a glitch in the mailing system. If that needs to be corrected, please contact the office and we can add your name or correct our list. You may have noticed some construction going on in the parish hall. We are in the process of adding three additional classrooms for our religious education program not a bad problem to have. We have had a number of new families join our parish over the last few years and we seem to be experiencing a bit of a baby boom in the first and second grades. I think this is a very hopeful sign for the future of our parish. I was on vacation last week and went to Mass at a local parish. It is always interesting as a priest to sit in the pew as you do and participate in Mass as you do each week. It must have been obvious that I was a visitor maybe I stood or sat at the wrong time but after Mass the couple sitting behind me introduced themselves and told me a little about their parish. It brought the fact home to me that no matter where you go as a Catholic, there is the unifying bond we share at Mass. The small gesture of welcome that the couple in church offered to me really made me feel welcome. As our parish heads into the future, and as we hopefully continue to welcome new parishioners to our parish family, I hope that each of us might try to make these new members feel welcome and at home. So often just a word of welcome to a new person or family can really change that person or family from being a one time visitor or a new parish member. Each one of us can make that difference. Fr. Culloty
