Archdiocese San Antonio Chapter meeting had the pleasure of having Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller speak at the meeting. Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller is also the State Knights of Columbus Chaplin. His main points was to express his gratitude to all Knights of Columbus council members for the great works in Charity, Volunteerism, support of our churches ministries, and communities. He asked that all Knights make the extra effort in prayer daily and to pray the Rosary and to carry a Bible and reading it daily. Archbishop Gustavo pushed the continued Fraternalism and Social events of each council for he feels that this not only unites our council Knights but also strengthens our Order. PRAYER-READING THE BIBLE-PRAYING THE ROSARY-KINGHT S SOCIALS-FRATERNALISM-UNITY-CHARITY We will be hosting the Archdiocese Chapter meeting in April at the hall, so be prepared to support this effort, more to come as time draws nearer. Ladies Auxiliary Lady Knights, Thanks to those who continue to support our Ladies Auxiliary by bringing in baked goods for us to sell. The bake sales during the first week of the Fish Fry was a little slow but I believe it will pick up in the coming weeks. We still have about 7 more weeks to go so please continue to support us with baked goods. Remember if your husband is on a Special Events team you also are on that team so come and help in the serving line or help us with the bake sale. Another important item is that our elections for Officer positions is fast approaching so continue to pray for guidance and consider running for office. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Blessing, YSIC; Maria Cabigon Ladies Auxiliary President; 210-854-0714 Lectors Corner-Deacon Elmer Fernandez Year of Faith: Oct. 11, 2012-Nov. 24, 2013 Veneration of the Holy Cross On the afternoon of Good Friday, the Celebration of the Passion of the Lord takes place which consist of three parts, namely the Liturgy of the Word, the Adoration of the Cross and Holy Communion. Since the beginnings of our faith we Christians have recognized the fundamental importance of the Passion and Death of Our Lord in the salvation history of humanity. That is why the adoration of the Holy Cross is at the heart of the Rite that we celebrate on Good Friday. We should remember that as we celebrate the liturgy of the adoration of the Holy Cross, we adore and show our gratitude not only to Jesus, but to the Holy Trinity who is God. The Most Holy Cross is the gate that takes us to true life, to eternal life. The Cross of Christ reminds us that we too must carry our own cross every day. That cross, well carried and offered to Our God, purifies and sanctifies us. And it is through the Cross that we can attain personal holiness since it is through the Cross that we receive the grace and love of God. Our Lord asks us to carry our daily cross with fortitude and with faith, He asks us to try to make a visible effort to make vital changes in our lives. In this Good Friday Rite Christ reveals to us the real meaning of the Holy Cross. Christ has died, yes. But it is through His death that He conquered death. The Cross, an instrument of cruelty and hate, has been changed into an instrument of peace and love. It is through the Cross that our life gains meaning. We are gather together on Good Friday in community. Even though we recognize that we are sinners; we come to adore the crucified Christ, to ask Him to pardon our poor, sinful ways and to ask for His mercy. After the Cross comes RESURRECTION. ALLELUIA! CHRIST IS RISEN! ALLELUIA! I would like to invite my brother Knights and their families to join us on March 1 st at 7:00 in the evening for the First Friday Holy Hour and Benediction in support of our bishops during the Year of Faith for The Call to Prayer for Life, Marriage, and Religious Liberty at Good Shepherd Church. We will also pray the Stations of the Cross. DIVINE MERCY MOMENT: Our Lord Jesus of Divine Mercy in St. Faustina s Diary, says that few of us contemplate our Lord s Passion with true feeling however, for all who do meditate devoutly on His Passion He gives great graces. Our Lord further says that through His Passion is where we must seek light and strength. (Diary 737, 654) It is a strength that helps us bear all our daily sufferings and we can also help convert sinners. How can we contemplate and devoutly meditate on His Passion? We can pray the Stations of Cross, the rosary & the Divine Mercy Chaplet sorrowful mysteries and/or silent meditation. Can we spend some time with our Lord on His Passion especially during this Lent? Membership Activities Knights Choir The Knights Choir will sing on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Good Shepherd Church at the 8AM Mass. Rehearsal is at 7:15AM. Only having through work insurance doesn t work INSURANCE AGENT- PAUL MAPEL Do you know anyone whose life has been drastically changed by the recent recession and economic downturn? With unemployment numbers rising, (the jobless rate was 8.1 percent in Feb. 2009, the highest since 1983), it s very likely that someone in your immediate or extended family or group of friends is facing financial uncertain now. With this uncertainty, there is a real possibility that you (or your spouse) could lose your job or change employers. Too many people have often relied on group term life insurance as their only safety net. Often, this insurance is an employee benefit provided at low or no cost. The existence of this coverage might convince someone that a personally owned life insurance policy is not necessary. Only having through work insurance doesn t work. This way of thinking should be a thing of the past for many reasons. Most forms of group life insurance are limited in amount, which may be tied to salary or some other benchmark. These numbers are often capped, and this cap may be dangerously low for your family s actual needs. In fact, without a detailed needs analysis, any employer-provided coverage may be completely unrelated to needs at death. In addition, the amount of group insurance offered is almost always reduced, sometimes dramatically, when you retire. With the possibility of these changes on the horizon, you could one day find yourself without coverage, and if your health has changed (which it has and will as you age), you might also find yourself unable to secure individual protection. While group life insurance can help, it does not replace the need for individually owned life insurance. I ll be happy to meet with you and provide a no-cost needs analysis, so you ll know exactly where you stand. I m at 210-275-5458 or Paul.Maple@KofC.org. Call me let s talk.
