The entire month of October is Respect Life Month. You may have noticed the rhetoric used by pro-choice advocates has become increasingly negative toward those of us who consider ourselves to be pro-life. Labels and expressions used against us include being against women or even women haters, and wanting to remove the rights and dignity of women. The opposite, of course, is true since we work and sacrifice for the good of women. Most women choose abortion because they feel they have no other choice. And the choice for abortion has been proven to be, not a solution, but the cause of more pain and unhappiness for those who end up making this choice. Dakota Hope Clinic here in Minot exists to support women with unplanned pregnancies. They are supported by several local churches and many Christian people. They are deserving of whatever help one can direct their way. Planned Parenthood, on the other hand, is the largest abortion provider in our country and unfortunately continues to receive assistance from our tax dollars. Have a blest week! Fr Bruce VOCATION VIEWS Actions speak louder than words. What are your actions saying? Turning from evil and doing good is what God wants. STEWARDSHIP OF TIME, TALENT AND TREASURE Service is the fourth of the four pillars of a Stewardship Parish. Members of a stewardship parish are ready to minister to the varied needs of their own parish family as well as the wider community and Church. Just as the members of a family come together to help one of their own, a stewardship parish family serves those who are hurting or in need, doubting or seeking salvation. Like a blood family, the parish family stands ready and eager to wrap their arms around their brothers and sisters when they suffer and/or celebrate special events in their lives. The parish family comes together to celebrate, thank and to return God s gifts all are needs of parishioners. The members of a stewardship parish also recognize that they have a need to go beyond their own members only. They have a need to serve and to give in the diocese, the community and the Universal Church. The pillar of service is an opportunity to put into concrete practice the other three pillars of stewardship: hospitality, prayer and formation. Adult... $8,136.00 Loose... $954.00 Children... $159.03 Offering Cards... 13 Stewardship Thought: If we accept the challenge of putting God first in our time and treasure, our attitudes, priorities, and spiritual lives will definitely change. LIFT THESE PEOPLE TO OUR LORD IN PRAYER To add or remove names from our Prayer list, please call our Parish Office at 839-6834. FELLOWSHIP SERVERS: October 8 8:30: Emily Hieb, Alayne Okland, Darlene Varberg 10:30: Virginia Slavick; Dennis & Deb Mittlieder It is with joy that we welcome Emmy Joanne Hallof, daughter of Jason and Marie, to our family at Our Lady of Grace Church. We remember Richard Schaan, brother of Anderson, Millie Weber, grandmother of Marie Hallof, and Darlene Bergren, wife of Paul. We pray for their families and friends who grieve their loss. May the fullness of life be theirs. IN REMEMBRANCE We remember those who passed away one year ago in October: Bertha Feist, Edward Ganje, Regina Rae Kohoutek, Allen Larson, and Mathia Aberle. Q: Are you interested in learning more about the Catholic faith and possibly joining the Church? Q: Are you an Adult Catholic who would like to receive the Sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirmation? Q: Are you an Adult Catholic who would like to learn more about the Catholic Faith or refresh your memories? A: The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) might be for you. The RCIA sessions will be on Thursday evenings from 7:00-8:30 pm starting October 5. For more information or to sign up, contact Deacon Steve at 839-7766. THANK YOU for all the prayers I received for healing of my broken wrist. My therapy is done. I am very blessed to be part of this parish! Angie Goldade RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1: Our Lady of Grace Parish Respect Life Committee is hosting a Culture of Life Fair this Sunday, October 1, from 8:30 am to 12:00 noon in the parish dining room in honor of human life. Projects completed by the Faith Formation classes to promote the dignity of life will be displayed for viewing as well as displays of several organizations. Our Lady of Grace Knights of Columbus, Council 4894, will sponsor a freewill breakfast during this fair. The net proceeds will go to St. Gianna s Maternity Home.

Next Week s Gospel: Matthew 21:33-43 Gospel Reflection: Jesus compares God to a vineyard owner whose messengers go to the tenants of the vineyard to collect his share of the grapes at harvest time. But the tenants beat, stone, or murder the owner's messengers. When the owner sends his son, the tenants treat him as they did the messenger. They kill the son, hoping to keep the vineyard, his inheritance, for themselves. The son in the parable is Jesus, of course, and the messengers are God's prophets, who speak in God's name. Jesus reminds us that the kingdom will be taken away from those who do not give God a harvest of good works. Discussion Points for Gospel: Are we rejecting any of God's messengers, or in any way rejecting Jesus? How can we accept Jesus and his messengers in our lives? What prayers can help us offer the harvest of our lives and work to God? NURSERY FOR AGES 3 MONTHS THROUGH 3 YEARS is available to parents during the 10:30 am Mass. It is located at end of the dining room. Volunteer caregivers make this ministry possible, and we are in need of more volunteers. To volunteer, please contact the parish office at 839-6834 or Simonne Paul, Nursery Coordinator, at simonne.paul@gmail.com. We ask that children brought to the Nursery be no younger than 3 months and no older than 3 years of age. There is a preschool Faith Formation class available during the 10:30 am Mass for 3-year-olds beginning in October (as well as numerous class options for older children on Sundays and Wednesdays). Please check the Faith Formation page of our website or call the parish for more information. THE ANNUAL APPEAL FOR CATHOLIC CHARITIES NORTH DAKOTA, the Social Arm of the Church, will be this weekend, September 30-October 1, in your parish. The past two years we have seen increases in the demand for and use of our services. With more people becoming aware of our programs through Catholic Charities Sunday and other efforts, it is more important than ever to continue raising awareness to reach out to the suffering in our dioceses. The financial support we receive from Catholic Charities Sunday is only a small amount from members of any one church, but together it makes the difference for us in meeting our budget so we can continue to serve those in need. Thank you! PASTORAL CARE COMMITTEE will meet on Wednesday, October 4, at 2:30 pm in the dining room. MIKAYLA KOBLE TO LEAD PARISH MISSION Mikayla Ruth Koble, daughter of Mohn and Julia Koble from our parish, will lead us in a parish mission this fall. She has an incredible personal story to tell of how God healed her from a devastating car accident while attending Bishop Ryan High School. After college Mikayla served with Focus (Fellowship of Catholic University Students) for three years. Now she leads retreats and parish missions throughout the country. Mikayla will speak briefly at the weekend Masses on October 7/8 and give a presentation at 4:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, October 8, 9:30 am. On Monday, October 9 at 9:30 am, she will speak on the topic of Suffering and Healing. On Monday at 6:30-7:30 pm, she will address the working people. On Tuesday she will do her final presentation with the 7:00 pm Mass, followed by root-beer floats. Please spread the word and plan to bring a friend along to hear Mikayla. THE 2017 HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH RALLY, ENCOUNTER, will be held on Thursday, October 19, from 1:00-10:00 pm at the University of Mary. This year s event will feature SONAR a Catholic band from the Twin Cities that has been making vibrant, vocally driven music for 20 years. Registration is only $25! Clergy, Religious and Chaperones are free but must still register. All youth must be affiliated with a parish or school group to attend. Visit www.bismarckdiocese.com/high-schoolyouth-rally for more information or contact Carrie Davis, Director of Youth Ministry, at cdavis@bismarckdiocese.com or (701) 204-7208. A ONE-DAY BIBLE STUDY ON EPHESIANS led by Ellie Bosch will be held on Saturday, October 21, from 8:00 am 3:00 pm in classrooms 2-3. Discover what it means to be a son or daughter of God and heir to all He has to give. The letter to the Ephesians reveals the remarkable gifts we as Christians are given in the Church as His family. Deadline to register for this study (at the parish office) and pay for a workbook is October 11. Please bring your Workbook, Bible, Catechism of the Catholic Church, a pen and a sack lunch. Come and be blessed! LITURGICAL MINISTERS: I am preparing the new schedule for liturgical ministers for November, 2017 through April, 2018. If you wish to be added to the liturgical minister list, taken off as a liturgical minister, or changed to help at a different Mass, please let me know no later than October 9. Thank you for being a liturgical minster! Deacon Steve

OUR LADY OF GRACE ALTAR SOCIETY will meet in the parish dining room on Tuesday, October 3, at 7:30 pm following the 7:00 pm Mass. All ladies of the parish are welcome. Hope to see you there! IF YOU HAVE DIFFICULTY HEARING IN CHURCH, the "Hearing Assist Loop System" is now repaired. Also, we have low-gluten hosts available on request. Questions, please speak to Fr. Bruce or Deacon Steve. DO YOU WANT AN EASY WAY TO FIND OUT WHAT'S GOING ON AT OUR LADY OF GRACE? Download our new parish app today! Text 555888 and type olgcc1 (Apple device) or olgcc2 (Android device) in the message. BISHOP RYAN CATHOLIC SCHOOL will be having the ROCK on Wednesday, October 11, at 6:30 pm. It is open to freshmen through seniors. There will be prizes, free pizza and drinks, and the speaker will be Mikayla Koble. AN APPEAL for the recent hurricanes after Harvey and the recent earthquakes in Mexico will be taken in the diocese (including our parish) next weekend. Envelopes will be available or you may use your own envelope and put earthquakes on it. The funds will be divided between those impacted by the hurricanes and those impacted by the earthquakes. MOVED BY MERCY Respect Life Rosary for 40 Days for Life will be September 27 November 5 at 6:30 pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in Mary s Garden, except when it is moved into the church due to weather. Rosary will be said in the main church on Saturday at 3:30 pm., Sunday at 8:00 am, and Tuesday at 6:30 pm. If you would like to be a rosary leader, please contact Leo Schaeffer at 839-6379. Pope Francis states that we are called by Mercy because Mercy has been shown to us. DO YOU LOVE MUSIC? Then please come to the October 4, 6:30pm rehearsal for Yes, Lord! It's a musical group for grades 6-12 that sings at events and at two Masses during the school year. Call or text Tanya for more information. QUESTIONS? Please contact Tanya at 839-6834 or education1@olgminot.org or text 701-219-3194. REGISTRATION IS STILL OPEN for all Faith Formation classes. Forms, calendars and additional information are on the Faith Formation page of our website and printed forms are available in the classroom hallway. Classes for grades K-5 began September 20 and 24, and grades 6-8 will begin this Wednesday, September 27. Preschool classes begin October 8. There is a Confirmation/High School Faith Formation class this weekend, September 24, from 1:30-4:30pm. All 9th grade and older students who have not received the sacrament of Confirmation should attend, including those enrolled at Bishop Ryan Catholic School. High school students who were confirmed at an earlier age but want to continue to grow in their faith are also invited to join the class. THANK YOU to the many people who have volunteered to serve as teachers, aides, hall monitors, and in other positions with Faith Formation! We still need additional leaders for the 5:00-5:30pm Dare to be a Disciple sessions. The lesson is prepared for you and you teach the same lesson for two consecutive weeks. You can help from as little as two days a year to every week, whatever works best for you. We could also use more people willing to learn about Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and to serve as aides or substitute aides for Wednesday or Sunday classes. Could you substitute teach for the other elementary or middle school classes? We occasionally need people who can help out when other teachers have to be gone. Please contact Tanya to volunteer. The first get-together for OUR LADY'S YOUTH GROUP (grades 6-8) is on Wednesday, October 4, at 7:15pm in the dining room. Please come, check it out, and see if it's for you! We would love to have additional adults to help with activities for this group that meets once or twice a month. Please contact Tanya. FAITH FORMATION & YOUTH CALENDAR Sun., 10/1: 9:20am gr.
