Connelly Council. The article submission deadline is the 10th of the month. Please send articles to: mjmggm@aol.com or for information on this newslettercontact:jerry Munley (630) 852-8819. Brothers: I want to wish all my fellow Knights continued blessings as we enter Holy Week. We have many opportunities for spiritual reflection and growth as Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday lead us to the highest holy day on our calendar, Easter Sunday. Around this time every year, our council hosts the very popular Easter Egg Hunt, which is a great way for us to provide a fun activity to the families of St. Scholastica and Christ the Servant. The hunt is fine way for us to put the Knights of Columbus name out in front of the many people who will attend this event. It will take place Saturday, March 24, at St. Scholastica, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Deputy Grand Knight Jerry Munley once again has chaired the hunt, and I thank him and all the volunteers who contribute their time working on this event. We have at least two fundraising activities ongoing now. We ll be selling Bakers Square cards again for $15, each of which will purchase one pie. The cards are good for an entire year, but they are perfect for getting a dessert for Easter and/or Mother s Day dinners. Also, Jim Leifel, council trustee, has created numerous wooden crosses and has them for sale. Proceeds from the sales go toward our council. (Continued on page 3) Notice Our next meeting will be held Wednesday, 28, 2018 At St. Scholastica Starting At 7:00 p.m.

March 2018 Page 2 5918 Express the Mosaic law. A quiet divorce seemed the only way to go. The feast of St. Joseph was celebrated last Monday on March 19. I found this Meditation in the Word Among Us and I would like to repeat that article since it helps those who have to make important decisions in their life. Say you re faced with a big decision whether to say yes to marriage or an adoption, to a religious life, a career change, or a move. Or you re wrestling with a relationship issue, like how to respond to a friend whose lifestyle goes against God s commands. What do you do? Well, you reason it out. You seek counsel from Scripture, church teaching, and competent advisors. You pray for guidance. A lot. Maybe you ask others to pray too. And finally, you settle on a course of action. But what if, after you had arrived at your carefully considered decision, God asked you to overturn it? Could you let it go? This is the hard choice that righteous Joseph faced. Scripture doesn t say much about Joseph, but that righteous speaks volumes. It means that he had set his heart on seeking God and doing is will. Undoubtedly, he had focused his life on the two greatest commandments: Love the Lord, your God with your whole being and Love your neighbor as yourself. And so, faced with an unthinkable dilemma a fiancée who was beyond reproach but was pregnant Joseph struggled to find a solution that did right both by Mary and by What courage it took to scrap this prayerful decision and say yes to an inscrutable plan! No wonder the angel s first words to Joseph are Do not be afraid! Ignore the gossip surrounding Mary s pregnancy. Accept the fact you can t penetrate God s ways. Don t worry about the job being too big for you. Joseph responded in faith. He surrendered his whole life to the demands of receiving God s own Son in this home. And God, who is never outdone in generosity, rewarded him with a unique experience of what it means to know Emmanuel, God is with us. Do you want to know God is with you? Then follow Joseph. Put God first, and seek him with all your heart. Bring him your decisions and dilemmas; listen for his guidance. And don t be afraid! Just as surely as he was with Joseph, God is with you too. Lord. I have so many plans and expectations for my life. I bring them all to you. Show me your way, Lord. I m ready to hear and obey. Vivat Jesus! Deacon Tom DID YOU KNOW? There are 91 Knights of Columbus Councils in the state of Illinois and 13 Knights of Columbus Assemblies.

March 2018 Page 3 5918 Express (Grand Knight continued from page 1) It is not too soon to think about summer plans. On Saturday evening, July 28, the Illinois Knights of Columbus will host an outing to a Chicago White Sox game. The event is in partnership with Special Olympics Illinois. Knights members and Special Olympics supporters will be invited to parade around the warning track before the game. If there is enough interest from our council members, we should consider getting a group together to go to the game. For more information, contact Jerry Bevignani, or call the White Sox at 312-674- 1000, or email sgbur@chisox.com. I am still considering bringing Wayne Messmer s one-man show Damien to St. Scholastica. We ll need to find a date and time and then form a committee to organize this event. Messmer has done this show many times and has much material to help us promote and mount the show. This could be a great fundraiser as well as being a religiously inspiring show I m confident our community would appreciate and support. Later this spring, we ll be putting together the slate of candidates for the officers of our council. I encourage our current officers to strongly consider serving another term in service to the council. I want to congratulate Brother Knights John Wilson and Ronald Weglarz for being named to the Newman Century Club. The award recognizes those individuals who contribute at least $100 in a fraternal year toward the Newman Apostolate Fund, which supports Newman Centers on college campuses in Illinois. These centers continue to provide a great Catholic presence on campus and have a beneficial impact on our young people. God loves each of us as if there were only one of us. St. Augustine Again, I wish everyone a happy Easter. May you and your families grow closer and the Lord bless you always. I look forward to seeing many of you at our next regular meeting, Wednesday, March 28, at St. Scholastica. Remember to tell a Catholic man about the Knights of Columbus. and invite him to join our council. Vivat Jesus!
