Abram then made sacrifices to God, cutting them in half. A torch passed between the pieces, as a visible sign to Abram of God's promise. Second Reading: Philippians 3:17 4:1 Paul urges the Philippians to avoid becoming too interested in material possessions. He reminds them that their most important wealth is their faith in Jesus, which will lead them to eternal life. Gospel: Luke 9:28b-36 Jesus took Peter, John and James to a mountain to pray. When his clothes grew incredibly white, Moses and Elijah appeared. They spoke of the scripture he was to fulfill. Then a cloud came down and a voice said, "This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him." The disciples who had seen Jesus' glory did not disclose this experience to anyone until much later. Celebrating the Sacraments B a p t i s m : The sacrament joyfully celebrates the entrance of members into our Catholic community. Baptisms are celebrated on Saturday mornings at 9:45am or by appointment, following preparation of the parents. Baptisms for adults take place through the RCIA process. Confirmation: Through the sacrament of confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Confirmation is offered to adults through the RCIA process, and annually for our eighth-grade students. As with the other sacraments of initiation, preparation is involved. Matrimony: Couples should contact the parish office as soon as possible or at least six months in advance of the desired wedding date to make arrangements for preparation. Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults: For those who are interested in finding out more information about the Catholic faith and/or interested in becoming Catholic. Please call the parish office. Anointing of the Sick: Our parish continues Christ s ministry of making whole the members of our community who suffer physical or emotional ills with Anointing of the Sick. Please call the parish office if you would like to receive this sacrament. Telephone Rosary for Healing The Washington Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women (WACCW) is hosting a telephone Rosary call from now until September 4, 2019, with the special intention of healing for all hurt by individuals within the Church. All are welcome to join the call at 8pm EST, Mondays- Saturdays, at 605-468-8016, code 357090#. 3 March 17, 2019 Second Sunday of Lent Pastor s Corner Dear Parishioners, Always on the Second Sunday of Lent we read and reflect on the Transfiguration of Christ. Just as the Apostles needed to see the glory of Christ before his death so we as well need to be reminded that Christ has conquered sin and death. We may have become discouraged, at times, in our Church as an institution. This may also lead people to turn away from Jesus Christ. We must always remember that Christ did not give into his temptations and even though we have, He stills dies and rises for us. We see this reenacted for us in each celebration of the Eucharist. The Church, the people of God, is always in need of his saving grace. We are never perfect and always in need of reconciliation. The path to true holiness is always by means of the cross. As Jesus was pronounced the Son of God, we have become sons and daughters of God, as well through Jesus saving actions. We can never give up on the constant renewal of the Church and ourselves through the power of the Holy Spirit. The symbol of the Cross is both our reaching out to our sisters and brothers and our turning to God and being lifted up by His love and mercy. Please remember we have extra Masses and confessions times throughout the season of Lent. The Stations of the Cross are on Fridays at 7 PM. Please come and pray with us. God s Peace, Fr. Mike Square Dance There will be a Square Dance on Tuesday, March 19th in the Parish Center. Enjoy a Pot Luck Dinner at 6:30pm with dancing to follow.
