The responsibility assumed by the couple and the Church is significant. While many focus on the day of the wedding, we seek to prepare for the second day and beyond. The Bishops of NJ have adopted a policy to assist in this preparation. Attendance at Engaged Encounter, Pre-Cana, or another approved marriage prep program, and individual sessions with a priest or deacon are required of all couples. Couples should contact the Rectory one year in advance of the intended marriage, and before finalizing other detail particularly reception facilities. Baptisms: The Church shares the joy of families in the birth of children, and, with their parents takes seriously the responsibility of bringing them up in the faith. Parents seeking baptism for their children are to attend Baptismal Prep Class. This can be arranged by calling the parish office. Parents should be registered members of the parish. Godparents, those who represent the church in the life of the child, must be practicing Catholics, if they are married, they must have been married in the Church, practice the faith regularly, and must obtain a sponsor certificate from their home parish. Please choose Godparents with these criteria in mind. Anointing of the Sick: This sacrament is given for those facing serious illness or surgery, and for those of advanced years. If you or a family member is planning to enter the hospital, please see one of the priests following Mass or call the rectory if you would like to receive this sacrament. Funerals: Please call the Rectory.

From Father Doug It is with great joy that we greet the Feast of our Lord s Resurrection. Throughout the world today people exchange greetings that focus on that fact that gives hope to all people. Sadly in our country we will say over and over again Happy Easter. In many countries people greet each other today with a heartfelt Christ is Risen. And they respond Indeed, he is risen. We might be embarrassed by that public display of religious belief. What a shame. Having walked the way of sorrows in Holy Week, having lived the penitence of lent we greet the light of Easter morning as people filled with joy and with hope. Even in difficult times we know that God prevails in all things. Sin never wins, death never wins, the things that seem to overwhelm us on a daily basis are no match for the gift and the joy of new life promised by our Risen Lord. For the next fifty days we celebrate this wonderful reality, a reality central to our lives as Christians. The readings at mass will speak of the appearances of the Risen Lord to the disciples that were meant to strengthen their faith and prepare them for the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. That same gift is given to us in baptism and strengthened in Confirmation, the gift of life and the call to ministry in the name of the Risen Lord. Hopefully we can live this season with joy and faith, seeing in this Easter a renewal in our own personal faith and hope in the Resurrection of Christ. A Blessed Easter Season to you all, and try greeting someone with Christ is Risen. It might make them think, and give thanks.
