Volume 44, Issue 01 South Bend, Indiana January, 2016 Brother Knights, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! As we celebrate the season of the birth of our Lord, we are reminded of those suffering from persecution, from hunger and lack of shelter, and especially during the month of January we pray for the defenseless victims of abortion. Please resolve in this new year to pray for and be generous to the needs of others, both spiritual and material needs. As a council we are in a position to help those in need and as Knights we have a responsibility to defend those who cannot defend themselves. Vivat Jesus! Scott Gring, Grand Knight 2016 MARCH FOR LIFE/SOUTH BEND On Friday, January 22, join pro-lifers as we peacefully protest Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision which legalized abortion on demand for all nine months of pregnancy. A rally will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Hall at 553, 553 Washington St. (corner of Hill St.). It will feature a Silent No More speaker who will talk from experience about why abortion is harmful for women. Then we ll march a few blocks through downtown South Bend to the Federal Courthouse on Main and Jefferson, where we ll protest until 1:00. Spend your lunch break publically standing up for the sanctity of unborn life and the overturning of an unjust law. For more, go to www.prolifemichiana.org/marchforlife. WALK THE TALK FOR LIFE 2016 Our annual Walk the Talk for Life event is scheduled for 2-4 pm on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016. Every year, our council invites all local Knights and families and friends of the Culture of Life to this no-cost, two part event the marks the anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe decision legalizing abortion. Please attend one or both of the parts of this tradition: 2:15 pm Pro-life prayer service at St. Joseph Church South Bend. 3 pm. Panel discussion and group conversation at the hall at 553 Washington St. (at Hill St. Panelists are Rev. Glenn Kohrmann and Josh and Stacey Nome, discussing ways to support the family as a centerpiece of a pro-life culture. They attended this fall's World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia, which Pope Francis highlighted while in the US. After brief remarks, networking and refreshments will continue until 4 pm. For more information, contact Knights Council pro-life chair Bill Schmitt at 574-232-6777. This year, there is no procession between the hall and the church, so you can park more conveniently at one or both venues. Bill Schmitt 2016 PRO-LIFE SIGNATURE AD Each year St. Joseph County Right to Life commemorates and opposes Roe v. Wade with a pro-life ad containing signatures of local pro-lifers. This year, the ad will be on billboards instead of the newspaper. The message and participating names will appear on digital billboards and the Right to Life website the week of January 18 th at the following intersections: Edison/State Road 23, Ironwood/State Road 23, and Ironwood/Lincoln Way. The ad will also run without names on static billboards throughout the month of January. Sign up online by January 15 th at www.prolifemichiana.org/ad. Pro-Life Chair
