We read in Zephaniah today that God "will sing joyfully because of you, / as one sings at festivals" (Zephaniah 3:18). We know plenty about singing at festivals. Already our ears are ringing with the songs and carols that anticipate the Christmas season. Paul reminds us of the source of our own double rejoicing: God is the mighty savior who is in our midst (in Zephaniah's words). Because this is so, says Paul, we can rejoice and be at ease. We don't have to worry, for God's peace will stand guard over our hearts and minds. A medieval carol depicts Christmas as "my dancing day" and urges us to enter into the dance. Why all the merrymaking? Because "the Lord is near," as Paul reminds us (Philippians 4:5). He then points to another reason for the dancing: the dawn of the promise of peace, the peace beyond all understanding, that is now within our grasp. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co. You will not only benefit personally from being part of this study; you will also help to bring about a profound renewal in our parish as we grow closer to Christ. Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible helps you uncover the story woven through Scripture with its clever narrative approach and ingenious color-coded Bible Timeline. It is a great way to get the big picture of the Bible and see how our Catholic Faith is rooted in Scripture. You ll see how the Bible reveals God s loving plan for your life, and you will learn helpful ways to put your faith into practice. The study includes a series of eight informative and engaging half-hour videos presented by Jeff Cavins. Each video will be followed by a lively group discussion. You can sign up for the study at Evangelization.com. You will receive a color-coded Bible Timeline Chart, a Bible study workbook, and the ability to stream the study videos online at your convenience. We will begin Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible on every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month (Thursday afternoons: 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the Parish Rectory and Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. 7:30 p.m.in the Scullen Room). ALTAR SOCIETY 300 CLUB Congratulations to our 300 Club winners for the month of November: Lori Phillips, Mimi Rexroad, Charlotte Graves, Winnie Leonhard and the Knights of Columbus! Thank you to all of our 300 Club members. Your support allows us to do many wonderful things for the parish! RETIREMENT FUND FOR RELIGIOUS Religious give thanks. We cannot begin to repay all who contribute, writes a Catholic sister. So we pray to God, who is never outdone in generosity, to reward you. Heartfelt thanks for your donation to last week s collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious. May God bless you KNIGHT AT THE RACES Mark your calendar! The St. Vincent Knights of Columbus will be holding a Knight at the Races on Saturday, January 16, 2016. In support of this effort please consider an ad for the Knight at the Races racing form. The ads are $25.00, $50.00, and $100.00 respectively; all you need to do is to supply a business card or brochure and it can be placed into the racing form. A $50.00 ad will offer the extra publicity that comes with being a race sponsor; a $100.00 ad will fill a whole page. Considering the inexpensive cost of these ads and the benefit to our parish, the good will to your company is not such a bad value. For more information call Fred Neugebauer at 867-2019 or Brian Walsh at 864-1242, or send your information to our mailbox at the rectory by January 7, 2015.
