Summer Mission Appeal - Next Weekend A Letter from Sister Elizabeth to the people of Queen of All Saints I am Sr. Elizabeth Beatrice Namazzi coming for mission appeals next weekend, August 25 th and 26 th at your Parish. I am glad to inform you that I obtained the US visa and have arrived in the US. I belong to the family of the Missionary Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church (MSMMC), a local African congregation of nuns founded in 1970 in northern region of Uganda East Africa. Currently, this Religious family has a total of 322 nuns trained and formed for effective service in the mission. Like all religious congregations, the Missionary Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church bear the common hallmark of religious life which includes the religious vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. The sisters also practice community life, prayer and meditation, and as well community meals, study, manual labour and leisure. Charism: The Charism of the Missionary Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church is: Motherhood. We put a Christian motherly touch/ heart to all we do in mission imitating our Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of the Church. The Sisters planning for new demonstration gardens Mission: We carry out Mission through education, medical services, catechesis of both children and adults, media and social work with youth, women and children at grass root levels. In all we have a special focus young girls, women and children particularly the marginalized. We seek to give them hope and meaningful life based on human dignity and fear of God. Countries of our Mission: We carry out mainly in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan and also in Italy. Purpose of the mission appeal: This mission appeal is about ostracized unwed teenage mothers. Often when teenage girls get pregnant, they are thrown out of their parents homes and they quickly drop out of schools. Soon they do not only lack shelter, but also food to sustain them. Eventually they become emaciated so much so that after delivery they do not have adequate breast milk for their babies to feed on. This project is intended to cater for outreach nutrition programs for these ostracized unwed teenage mothers and their babies under five years old. This mission falls in our area of apostolate towards women and children welfare. Funds from the mission appeal are intended to train ostracized unwed teenage mothers on how to prepare simple nutritious meals for them and their children under age five. The programs will involve traveling to outreach stations where the team will meet clusters of ostracized unwed teenage mothers and engage them in nutrition workshops and setting up demonstration gardens so that they can eventually sustain themselves with trained skills. If it is not possible for you to come to the rectory, please call the rectory to make arrangements. If an adult or a school age child seeks baptism, special arrangements should be made with one of the priests. The Sacrament of Matrimony Queen of All Saints helps couples prepare not only for their wedding day, but also for the lifelong commitment of living a Christian marriage. Parishioners of Queen of All Saints Basilica who are baptized and free to marry in the Catholic Church may celebrate their marriage in Queen of All Saints Basilica. Couples from Queen of All Saints seeking marriage in Queen of All Saints Basilica should contact one of the parish priests at least six months prior to their intended date of marriage. The couple must meet with one of the priests before the date for the marriage can be confirmed. Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick The sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is not just a sacrament for those who are at the point of death. As soon as one of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him or her to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived. Therefore, any member of the faithful who is seriously ill because of sickness or advanced age may properly receive this sacrament. Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time August 19, 2018 13
