Above and Beyond.I don t know if any of you notice, but the Blessed Virgin statue on the Council lawn has been repainted. This project took several hours to complete. It looks like a new statue. Thank you! Ray Carmichael Ray also wrote a nice letter that was published in the Advocate. It was a letter of explanation in response to the criticism the 109 Council took during our Tootsie Roll Drive the past couple of years. We were being accused of exploiting the people with special needs by sending them out to the surrounding businesses asking for donations for tootsie rolls. The article is revealing. It is nicely written and informative. (I copied it on the last page of this bulletin) Bro. George Prendergast sent in a nice donation to the tootsie roll drive. With it was a copy of the article. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Pope Francis asks us to please pray for him. We are excited to announce the new Knights of Columbus Council #109 website. The newly designed website will be easy and accessible to all members. Here is the website address www.kofc109.com to access all the Knights of Columbus Bulletins month. We are going paperless! There will be bulletins down the Knights of Columbus lounge, if you do not wish to wait for the bulletin via mail. And lastly, the Grand Knight has a laptop so you can email him any upcoming events that you would like to add to the Knights of Columbus bulletin at grandknight109@gmail.com. Do you know that ladies are welcome in the lounge as guests of members at any time, except on the nights of Council business meetings? Do you know that we now have an ATM machine? The machine was installed since many guests at functions in the hall do not carry cash because they are accustomed to using bank cards. Just another small step along the long road toward modernity!

RAY S LETTER TO THE ADVOCATE It s that time of year again. The leaves on the trees are turning into a majestic panorama of colors. The hues of red and yellow seem to permeate the foliage everywhere. Here in Arlington, we see the familiar red and yellow vests worn by the Knights of Columbus doing their annual Tootsie Roll Drive. This fundraiser originated in 1970 at a K of C council in Tinley Park, Illinois. The original plan was to give out forget me not flowers. That idea did not fly. Someone came up the suggestion of Tootsie Rolls made in Illinois. History was made Monies collected have supported thousands of the handicapped, special needs people, access equipment, and many other worthy situations. In addition to the K of C members collecting, we are blessed to have some special needs people volunteering for this cause. This is their time shine! They look forward to socializing with people. To reach a goal, their goal. Some of them enter into competition with each other to collect the most money. They also enjoy the camaraderie of Knights. We appreciate and love them and KNOW them all. We deeply appreciate the generosity of all those who have contributed to help our cause over the years. When you see us over the Columbus Day weekend here in Arlington, say hello. Share our happiness!
