Coastal Bend Emmaus, Chrysalis, Kairos & Damascus Communities August 2008 Vol. 15, Issue 8 I love Emmaus. The longer I serve in the community the more I learn about servant hood. There are hundreds of people I would like to thank who make Emmaus so special by serving as the hands and feet of Christ. God bless Terri Shook, our past Community Lay Director, who guided us through many changes with a heart for the Lord, a sense of humor and a level head. While Terri served a visible role in the community, the majority of her service was probably behind the scenes; organizing, mentoring, fielding questions, and leading by example. We have many saints on our Board of Directors, who have served tirelessly for years. Cindy McMahon recently stepped down after serving nine years as Editor of the Rainbow Bend newsletter and is still serving as the Database Coordinator. Lynn Cates also stepped down after having served nine years in the following positions: Prayer Vigil Coordinator, Treasurer, Conference Board Representative, Walk Liaison and Team Selection Chair. I can t begin to name all our saints, (logistics coordinator, music director, treasurer, secretary, prayer vigil coordinator, agape and agape letter coordinators, web servant, etc.) but please look up their names on the Coastal Bend web site and thank them for their service the next time you see them. Then there are those saints, both individuals and reunion groups, who prepare the countless agape. The lanyards, fisherman s bracelets, worship book covers, aprons, pillow agape, meals, food agape, journals, letter bags, 4 th day packages, and on and on. Last time I looked there are over 100 items on the agape list and many are made for all 80 members of the team and pilgrims. Plus many people serve in more than one Fourth Day Community including Journey to Damascus, Chrysalis, Kairos, Kairos Outside and Walk to Siloam. That is a lot of love being spread around. The real heartbeat and lifeblood of Emmaus are the Lay Directors, Clergy and Walk teams. They take over six months out of their life to put together a team, go thru team formation and then the actual Walk itself. It is truly a sacrificial gift to the whole community. In addition, there are the saints who carry the team and pilgrims through the weekend by their prayers. The saints who sponsor the pilgrims and those who come to Candlelight and Closing. Plus the spouses and family members of these incredible servants, who are not only supportive of their work, but often take up the slack in their absence. The list of servants in the Emmaus Community is endless. They serve quietly and anonymously; never asking or wanting any recognition for their hard work. I must confess that this sacrificial gift of agape, giving of oneself always blows me away because I tend to be self centered. That is embarrassing to admit, but I have a long way to go toward a Christ centered life. It is through your service that I have learned about the depth and breadth of God s love. Ephesians 4:17-19 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts thought faith; and that you being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. Rely on the mighty Lord; constantly seek His face. Psalm 105:4 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: The JTD #63 Team and I want to say Thank You to the Damascus, Emmaus, Chrysallis, Cursillo and Kairos communities for all your support, prayers and gifts of agape. There are no words that can adequately describe the joy and peace that is in our hearts after this wonderful weekend. I was truly moved to tears many times on this weekend because of the wonderful and beautiful ways that the Holy Spirit let everyone know He was there and enjoying the glorious celebration that we dedicated to Him. Your prayers, support, and love surrounded us and lifted us the entire weekend. From praying away a hurricane to the wonderful outpouring of love we felt at candlelight, we the team of JTD #63 say Thank You! All for His Greater Glory! Kim Gallagher, LD for JTD #63. I am truly thankful for each and every one of my brothers and sisters in Christ. I hope to see you soon at Candlelight and Closing.
