Summer is nearly upon us and it s village fete season and a chance for ALL to get involved in supporting this Upton tradition, whether by offering your time through baking a cake or coming along and supporting the fete. My husband and I will be manning a children s games stall for the first time and raising some funds. Let s hope for good weather and hope to see you there- If you have any news, adverts, ideas, thoughts, special events and photos that you would like to share please email me on GenGam79@hotmail.co.uk. Genevieve Gamwell (editor) (2 Church Cottage) UPTON VILLAGE FETE SATURDAY 10 TH JUNE, 11am 2pm Volunteers needed!! The Village Fete is arguably one of the Highlights of the social calendar in Upton. It s a chance to mingle with your neighbours and purchase some handmade crafts, cake and maybe win big in the raffle! This year we are in need of volunteers. What talents could you bring to the fete? Can you bake a cake or biscuits for the cake stall, donate some items to the tombola? Are you a bit crafty? Do you make items that you would like to sell at a stall? Can you face-paint? Can you play an instrument and bring some music to the fete goers? Any talents would be greatly appreciated and all helps to raise much needed funds to keep the village hall going. If you think you could offer your time or talents then please get in touch either email gamwell@hotmail.co.uk or call 07765864128 If you are able to donate items for the tombola or raffle the village hall will be open on Saturday 3 rd June from 09:00 to drop these off, or contact me using the details above. Most importantly it will be great to see you there, and your support in making this a fun event will be much appreciated. Many Thanks in advance Paul Gamwell

Lost and Found This stone bracelet was found on the path running next to the end Farm a week or so ago. If it is yours it can be collected from 2 Church Cottages. Massive Congratulations to Mark and Samantha of 2 Church Cottages, who got married in Upton on Saturday 29 th April. Thank you to Helen from the Garth who found it. Save 5 off your heating oil, and earn 5 for Upton Village Hall. Next time you order your heating oil, use Boiler Juice and quote NE6D9CB7 to get 5 off your order and the village hall will also get 5 credit from Boiler Juice. Find them at www.boilerjuice.com Co-Operative Funding for the Village Hall. Many thanks to Ruth King for applying for Co-Op funding for local communities. Upton Village Hall has been selected for the final round. So far we have 362 of funding allocated to us, but the more votes we get the more money we get! Only Co-Op members can vote, but the good news is you can join the Co-Op for just 1, and then vote for our project. This funding will help us continue to keep the Village Hall facilities fully operational and support more events throughout the year. Visit www.coop.co.uk/membership to join and vote for Upton Village Hall. Spread the word to your friends!

Upton in the Spring. We live in a beautiful part of the County with plenty to see on gentle walks around the village, footpaths and woodlands. Keep your eye out this spring for the Bluebell display in Upton woods and you may even see the Common Spotted Orchid! Village Sign The Village sign is back in its rightful place by the village pond after having been restored to its full glory, and many thanks to Keith for cleaning and varnishing the village furniture. Thankyou to everyone who supported Araminta in her sponsored silence for Comic Relief. She raise a total of 184.84! Well done Araminta.

Church News Church Contacts Richard Sandiland Church Warden and Treasurer Sally Dalley Secretary sally.dalley@hotmail.com Lynn Gibson Church Warden lynngibson100@hotmail.co.uk St Margaret s News May is the month when the church wardens take the oath to serve the Parish for the next year. This year the admission as it is called was held in the nave of Ely Cathedral. I have not been there for many years and was swept away by the scale, the beauty and the atmosphere of the cathedral, it is truly magnificent. Our bit was towards the end of the choral evensong which was mainly sung by young choristers. They were so good and had such high clear voices and their parts were in sharp contrast to those sung by the strong, massed voices of the church wardens. It was a very uplifting experience and I am very glad that I went. I hope that I will get the chance to do so again.
