Holy Week marks the climax in our story of faith - the parade, the upper room, the betrayal and cross, and the ultimate victory of resurrection. By journeying thought it all we have the full picture and appreciation for the gift we claim in abundant life now and in the life to come. Make plans to be with us for the holy journey and invite your family, friend and neighbors to join you. April 9 Palm Sunday Children wave palm branches and sing special songs in worship at 9:00 and 11:00 AM. This begins the events of the week that tell the pinnacle stories of our faith. April 13 Maundy Thursday Worship, 7:00 PM "Remember" Come remember why the Table is central to our faith. With a sermon, special music from Isaac Herbert and Kelly Ford, and the powerful conclusion of the service as the Lenten symbols are stripped from the sanctuary, we are left in darkness as we turn toward what is next. April 14 Good Friday Tenebrae, 7:00 PM "Reflect" As the worship space sits bare, reflect through choral music and readings on the meaning of the cross. The events of the crucifixion place us in the midst of betrayal, fear, chaos, and death. The Savior of the World, at the hands of the world, for the sake of the world. April 15 Easter Eggstravaganza, 4-5:30 PM This community outreach event, hosted by HACC Children's Ministry, is for families of all shapes and sizes. An egg hunt, (by age group for children ages 0-11 years), bunny hop and JC's Traveling Barnyard and games and prizes help to make this a fun and festive event! April 16 Easter Sunday! 9 AM & 11 AM "Celebrate" Join us to celebrate the resurrection. It will be a joyful morning with special music and message to celebrate that "Christ is risen indeed!" Join us to honor our pastors class students as they are baptized in a special service at 10 AM.

2 Be Loved! Youth Events High School Movie Night Friday 4/7 6-10 PM What better way to spend a Friday night than with pizza and a movie in the Youth space. High School students and any friends you want to invite will meet at the church at 6 PM. We ll play some games, order pizza, spend a few hours arguing about what movie to watch then settle in for a movie. Look forward to seeing you! Middle School Spring Retreat 4/21-4/23 Retreats are the pinnacle of our school year programing and we will continue that tradition this spring at Sheperds Fold Ranch in beautiful Avant OK with our middle school group. The plan is to meet at the church at 5 PM on Friday April 21, go to the ranch and escape from the busy-ness of the world. We will return to the church midafternoon on Sunday, April 23. Knowing life is busy and that some of our students will not be able to attend for the entire weekend, please know that we have a plan for them. There will be groups coming up late Friday night as well as early Saturday morning. Please let me know if you have conflicts and we will work something out. This trip is open to any of our middle school youth and promises to be a blast. If you have any questions or would like to sponsor this event please let me know. We d love to have you join us. The total cost of the retreat will be $55 which is due by Wednesday April 12. Grace & Peace, Colt 918-691-6525 colt@hacctulsa. org Next Sunday s Message: All Groan Up: Culmination The Pharisees took one look and threw up their hands: 'It's out of control. The world's in a stampede after him'." - John 12:12-19 It is often in hindsight that we say, That s when everything changed. The tension may be building and the proverbial writing may be on the wall but until that culminating moment comes, it s hard to know how it will all go down. Palm Sunday marks such a moment of culmination for Jesus. The crowds cheer initially but the mood swings quickly. What do you do in the wake of such moments? Fight? Flee? Serve? Jesus certainly points us in a particular direction. Join us for worship this Sunday at 9:00 or 11:00 AM as Mark Briley continues our sermon series, All Groan Up with a message entitled: Culmination. (John 12:12-19). Our children s choirs will also offer a special musical number at each service as part of our Palm Sunday celebration.

3 Believe! New Members: We welcome Andrea (Andi) Gross who joined the church on Sunday, April 2. Andi sings with the Rising Band on Sunday mornings and is the daughter of HACC members Kevin and Susan Gross and sister to Julia Gross and Diana Booren. Pictured is Sam Roberts who previously joined the church on Sunday, March 5. Thank You: We want to thank our HACC family for all their kind sentiments at the time of my mother's (Dorcas Merriman) passing. Thank you to the bereavement ministry team and friends from the Challengers Class for the lovely reception following the service. The Celebration of Life for my mom was a loving tribute to a life well lived. - Sue Flint and family Spring Bible Study Seamless Thursdays, April 20 June 1 12:00 1:00 pm (feel free to bring your lunch!) In 7 sessions, Seamless covers the people, places, and promises of the Bible, tying them together into the greater story of Scripture. Whether you've grown up hearing Bible stories or you're exploring Scripture for the first time, the full story of the Bible can be overwhelming. Please join us beginning April 20 where you will experience the Bible as a whole and gain clarity and confidence in your understanding of Scripture. During this study you will discover a biblical context that reshapes and brings to life stories from the Old and New Testaments. Each week's lesson is accompanied by maps, general Bible facts, and word studies. Study guides are $12.99 and can be picked up next to the signup sheet located in the Peake Commons Welcome Center. For more information, contact Christy Southard at christy@hacctulsa.org.

4 Believe! "Free Money"?! Who doesn't like "free money"? The Next Chapter building fund campaign that made the dream of our current campus and facilities possible, ends in May. What a campaign it has been! Thank you for the generosity of many who led us this far! The Finance Team, in its forward planning process, has recently created a Matching Building Fund with the Oklahoma Disciples Foundation (ODF). It takes advantage of a special matching-gift program established by Sam and Mary Howard. Any contribution to our new fund will be matched by ODF on a $1.00 for $2.00 basis. The maximum HACC contribution the foundation will match is $100,000 with ODF matching up to $50,000. In other words, if we raise $100,000, ODF will give $50,000 to our fund! Time is of the essence because the ODF Matching Funds contribution will expire June 28, 2017. With support of the Finance Team, Ed Crockett is leading the effort to help HACC embrace this unique opportunity which will help pay for remaining building costs, maintain our beautiful facility, and/or start new building use programs. While free money catches our attention and we celebrate this amazing opportunity, we are grateful for the stewardship of the Howard family that makes this reality possible for Disciples congregations across the state of Oklahoma. Help us grow this opportunity, strengthening the future of faith for the many touched every day by the ministry of our church. NEW! Sing and Play Program The Children s Ministry department introduces a new musical program, "Orchard Sing and Play with Miss Christina" (OSP). This new offering will be an interactive program for children ages 0-5 with a caregiver on Wednesdays at 1:00-1:30 pm. The first OSP will be April 19 following Easter. During each OSP we will explore music together using three basic ideals: Move, Sing, and Play. We will explore our voices, rhythm instruments, and how our bodies can move to music. We will learn by using our faith, puppets, felt stories and other mediums. This is a FREE program and an exciting opportunity to invite new families! Starting in June we will add a 10:00-10:30 am option. For questions feel free to contact Christina Maxwell mschristinasings@outlook.com

Their songs will be the Introit, followed by sitting with their families until the Invitation to Children Worship & Wonder. Maundy Thursday/Good Friday Services During both services the children will meet in the Children's Worship Center for a Bible story and Mediterranean food tasting service on Maundy Thursday, and a Bible story and surprise Easter project on Good Friday. Please bring children directly to the Children's Welcome Center before 7 PM worship on both evenings. 6 Souvenirs After travelling with 22 friends to Jerusalem a couple of months ago, a smaller group of us travelled to Istanbul for a few extra days. There is no way to encapsulate what just those 3 days meant, but I can say this: I will go back to Istanbul as soon as I m given the chance. What a gorgeous, remarkable, exciting place. Become! Some of our souvenirs returned on slower transit than we did, including several pieces of Turkish glassware purchased at the Grand Bazaar. My friend Kamran ended up with all of the boxes at his house, distributing the pieces to us as they ve arrived. Kam and I keep missing each other when one of us suddenly remembers oh my gosh it s been a month and I still haven t gotten that from you! but today was the day. He texted, and stopped by, and my gorgeous amber glass and copper filigree lamp is in my hands safe and sound. It happens that Kam was coming from a meeting at the mosque; in addition to his full-time work as a physician, Kamran serves as Outreach Director for the Islamic Society of Tulsa. He met today with a man who tried to convert his wife; Saima had finally given him Kam s number, and Kamran offered to meet with him and answer questions about Islam. Kamran said he spent most of the two hours saying: Yes, I know that s what you ve heard. No, that s not what we teach. Yes, people do say that. No, that isn t what we believe and practice. Yes, it does seem like this is the case. No, we don t believe that; in fact, we believe that goes against what it means to be faithful. On the one hand, I m really annoyed at us when we think we have all the answers and the only answers and when we insist on other people explaining themselves to us and defending their very existence as human beings, let alone as people of faith. But much more importantly, on the other hand, I am tremendously grateful for people like my friend Kamran who is smart and funny and engaging and compassionate and inquisitive and generous who will take the time who MAKES the time to sit one-on-one and answer any questions that come. And in the end? Kamran said it just so happened that there was a wedding going on at the mosque today, so his guest was invited to share in food, and saw what hospitality really looks like. THAT is how the world changes. It s how we reverse the course, how we stem the tide of misunderstanding and the waves of shock and hatred. We take and make the time to be together. It may not change everything forever, but it at least moves us in the right direction. Thanks for coming over today, Kamran. It s always good to see you.

7 Become! It's About That Time The intensity of the season of Lent is a thrill for most every pastor I ve ever known. The twists and turns of the Gospel narratives; the heightened curiosity of the public; the deepening practice of the faithful. What s not to love? That being said, there is a fullness that accompanies the forty-six-day quest to Easter that always catches up with us at some point. I typically don t realize that catch has found me until I start digging through piles on my desk to find something I m looking for like an accountant surely does during tax season. That moment has come! I had to take a picture of the crime scene as I paused to laugh at myself. Here's a look at (part) of my desk this week. Nothing staged mind you. I d love to say that each open book, calendar, note, piece of paper, and the like is in just the place I intend for it to be. In part, such is true. These cluttered moments are the major clues for me that, Yep. It s about that time." How has the Lenten journey been for you? Can you remember what seems long ago by now, receiving the mark of the cross on Ash Wednesday? Have you held true to your intentional focus on the meaning of the season? Are you making plans to journey with us each step through the holiest of all weeks? I hope so. I m in it. I m ready. Well, almost ready. I ve got much work to do to see how the story will unfold in our midst this year. Even still, I m confident in the outcome of the journey we re walking together now. We ll wave the palms in celebration, we ll gather at the table remembering betrayal, we ll kneel at the cross with sadness that comes with such violence but then we ll gather again. Somehow, I just know through the piles of papers and books and schedules and the like, we ll find out once again Christ is risen indeed! Yep it s about that time. Community Garden Planting Party for Earth Day! When: Saturday, April 22nd from 9:00am -11:00am Where: HACC Community Garden (located to the west of the church facility) What better way to celebrate the gift of God s creation this Earth Day than getting a little dirt on your hands! You are invited to join us for a prayer for our earth and to help plant our crops in the HACC Community garden. Please join us in this ministry of fellowship, outreach, learning, and feeding that reaches the broadest spectrum of our community: from our children s ministry to adults, congregants and members of the community at large. All are welcome! RSVPs are encouraged! You may sign up at the Peake Commons Welcome Center or send a message to Kevin Howe, Community Pastor (kevin@hacctulsa.org).
