Full business meeting set for February 7 Moving the freewill lunch because of the snowstorm provided the opportunity for a lunch and full meeting format. After worship and a freewill offering lunch sponsored by the Fidelis-Koinonia Sunday School class on February 7, we will be having a full congregational business meeting. In addition to receiving regular reports, the two major items on the agenda are: 1. A resolution on giving up the church s possible ownership stake in Spring Creek Town Hall. (As previously reported, Beaver Creek Church may have a long-surviving ownership stake in the Spring Creek Town Hall, leading to potential liability for accidents or code violations there. The legal advice we received is to give up that ownership stake.) 2. A motion from the facilities team to fund three projects for completion in 2016: a. Replacing the parsonage driveway, at an expected cost of $8,450; b. Adding a hand railing to the north ramp of the Fellowship Hall (similar to the existing south ramp rail), at an expected cost of $906; and c. Adding baffling to improve the acoustics of the Fellowship Hall, at an expected cost of $2,260. As the projects were not included in the 2016 budget, the motion proposes funding them through a transfer of $11,616 from the Building Fund. This format is a change from the original schedule, as the lunch had been planned for January 24 and the business meeting was to have been shortform, right after the worship service February 7. However, a heavy snow resulted in postponement of the lunch, providing the opportunity to have the lunch and full business meeting on the same Sunday. In its regular January meeting, the church leadership team approved the revised schedule and the addition of those two major items to the agenda. Men s Fellowship meeting set If you re a guy, you re invited! Whether you re a church member, a friend, or a friend of a friend, you are welcome as the Men s Fellowship meets on Saturday, January 30, at 7:15 a.m. at Thomas House Restaurant in Dayton. Unfinished Business: Evy Kaye handed out copies of the results of the Facilities and the Spiritual Emphasis discussions. Bill Wood presented an idea for Homecoming 2016 to marry the usual Homecoming Sunday event with an Outreach event on Saturday of the same weekend. Bill suggested a possibility for chairing the committee. Evy Kaye reminded team members that Focus Team yearly reports are due to the church office by January 15. Evy Kaye reported that Jane Cyzick has resigned from the Christian Education & Discipleship Team. Evy Kaye read a letter from

Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren 5651 Beaver Creek Rd. Bridgewater, VA 22812-3378 Nonprofit Organization U.S. Postage Paid Harrisonburg, VA 22801 Permit No. 50 Glenn Bollinger, Pastor Bill Wood, 2016 Leadership Team Chair Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren is a loving, caring and authentic fellowship of believers empowered by the Holy Spirit and called to be God s church: to worship, humbly serve others and proclaim Jesus Christ. Bathroom signs changed Celebration set for 2017 Lenten vespers return for 2016 Beaver Creek bits Following up on our facilities discussion last year, the Facilities Team has placed new signs on two of our existing restrooms. Before, we had two ladies and two men s rooms. Now, the men s rooms on both levels have been converted to family bathrooms with the replacement of signs. The new signs are the international symbol for family (or unisex ) bathrooms. There s one important rule for a family bathroom: Lock the door when you are inside. With this understanding, the newly designated family bathrooms can easily be used by men or women, or by parents taking care of small children. This change should allow more efficient use of our restroom capacity. Previously, there were many times when there was a line for the ladies room and the men s room was vacant. One more note: There are now props on both of the new family bathrooms doors, allowing for the door to be propped open for cleaning or at low-traffic times when the propped door makes clear that the bathroom is vacant. Beaver Creek Church will be having a special celebration in 2017 on the 100 th anniversary of the dedication of our current church building. The celebration will be combined with a homecoming and other activities. Ordinarily 2016 would have been a homecoming year, but the leadership team decided at its January meeting to take advantage of the 100 th anniversary to schedule the special observance. People will be needed to plan and coordinate the celebration, so if you re interested contact Bill Wood or Pastor Glenn. The current building is the third one used by the Beaver Creek congregation. It replaced a frame structure down the hill from the current site, which in turn replaced a smaller log structure that was destroyed by fire. We will be having vespers during the last three Saturdays leading up to Easter this year. Each vespers program will feature an informal meal, a campfire, songs around the fire and a meditation. Those dates are March 12, March 19 and March 26. This year s March 27 date for Easter is relatively early. (The earliest calendar date possible for Easter is March 22. The latest date is April 25.) Adrienne Whiteside will be back as choir director this month. Thanks are due to Pastor Glenn for filling in meantime as director. Two more pews have been sent to the upholsterer for refurbishing. Additional donations toward this project are welcome. We re looking at the possibility of having a joint Vacation Bible School with Montezuma Church of the Brethren this summer.
