the 4th day newsletter January 21, 2013 A MESSAGE FROM WALK #151 LAY DIRECTOR My Journey Dear fellow Pilgrims of the Alabama Emmaus Community, I would like this opportunity to thank you for your support of the Emmaus movement here in Central Alabama. Because of your servant s heart, your sponsorship of new pilgrims more than six thousand lives have been impacted with not only by the love of God, but the knowledge that our lives can be lived in His grace in our Fourth Days. My life is one of those changed. Walk #151 is about to begin and 36 new pilgrims, along with 26 conference room men, and countless numbers of Support Team members whose new life awaits them because of their Walk to Emmaus. During the 72 hours of this walk, my prayer is that the men present and those of the Support Team will rediscover new depths of their faith that will lead to a stronger relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus. I pray that their homes will be strengthened and new leaders emerge in their local churches. I would like to thank each of you who give of yourself to support Walk 151. This walk can take place because of each of you who pray, cook and serve meals, greet the pilgrims as they arrive, set up worship venues, make and deliver the refreshment items we so enjoy. Thank you. For those who make and those who silently deliver the symbols of Agape love and those of you who make sure the supplies and furniture needed to conduct the walk is delivered and packed up again, I say thank you. To the men who will serve with me in the Conference Room, my Walk 151 may never be remembered for who served, or the stories told. My prayer is that Walk 151 will be remembered because lives will be changed, homes and marriages will be strengthened and each man there will have seen the face and felt the love of Jesus in a real and personal way. A MESSAGE FROM WALK #151 SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. `Psalm 118:24 This is one of my favorite passages in the Bible and one that I try to live by each and every day. We have so much to be thankful for and some many things to rejoice about. One of those things is the Walk to Emmaus. I rejoice in this opportunity to serve as the Spiritual Director of Walk #151. I rejoice in the wonderful team that God has put together for this walk. I rejoice as I remember my own walk over twenty years ago. I rejoice in all of my Forth days and all the opportunities I have had to serve on Emmaus Walks, Emmaus Steering Committees, Emmaus Boards, and two International Walks in Estonia and Russia. I know that we always say this walk is the best walk ever, but I think it is wonderful how God makes each walk unique and inspiring in its own way. I rejoice that God moves in wonderful and mysterious ways on every walk. I rejoice when I think about what God is going to do on Walk #151. We cannot even imagine what He is going to do but it will be wonderful and far beyond what we can think or imagine. Pray with me for this Walk and the pilgrims of Walk #151. Pray for our Lay Director, Darrell Pearson. Pray for all of those in the conference room, in support, behind the scenes, sponsors, and everyone involved in some way. May God s Spirit move in marvelous ways and touch our hearts with the power of His presence. 2013 Walk Dates to Remember Women s Walk #152 Feb. 20-23 Shea Baugh - Lay Director Charles Cummings Spiritual Director Millbrook Miracles Cluster Men s Walk #153 Mar. 20-23 Dennis Teel - Lay Director Selma Cluster Women s Walk #154 Apr. 17-20 Lorri Schoonover - Lay Director East Alabama Cluster Walk #155 May 15-18 Greg Fields Lay Director Prattville Cluster Walk #156 Aug. 21-24 Jimmy Aulner Lay Director Valley Cluster Walk #157 Sept. 25-28 Betty Jo Landrum Lay Director Lake Martin Cluster Walk #158 Oct 23-26 Donna Wells Lay Director Elmore Cluster For additional Emmaus and Chrysalis information and updates, periodically refer to our website at www.caew.org Remember, God equips & gives you the means & strength you need to serve, and bring others to Christ. Chrysalis offers spiritual renewal to young people through a three-day experience and follow-up and is a division of the Upper room and the Emmaus community. Then the two from Emmaus told their story of how Jesus had appeared to them as they were walking along the road, and how they had recognized him as he was breaking the bread. Luke 24:35 (NLT) Chrysalis "Flights" (for 10th through 12th graders) and "Journeys" (for young adults, ages 19-24) are three-day events. This three-day spiritual renewal time provides an opportunity for you to learn more about faith, to experience Christian love and support, and to make new faith commitments. The point is to inspire, challenge and equip you for a closer friendship with Christ and for Christian action at home, church, school, and community..
