A CALL TO PRAY!: Day of Prayer, Saturday 12th May - 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. Come and go as you please, for as short or as long a time as you like. Churches Together are organising a Week of Prayer for all the local churches, and we shall be holding a Day of Prayer to start that week. It will begin with a short act of worship in the Celtic style at 10.00 am. The church will be open all day and there will be resources available for use, either in church or to take home. The day will end with Celtic worship at 4.00 pm. Flyers are available in church with more details. We are also invited to pray with Christians from around the world during the nine days between Ascension and Pentecost, (known as the Novena) using art and scripture. Changed Lives - Changing Lives is the guiding theme this year as we pray afresh for the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Booklets will be available in church on Ascension Day, 11th May, with reflections for each of the days. Further details from Maggie Marsh -020 8224 0607 HOPE: SUNDAY 24 JUNE, 2.00-5.00pm This annual event is organised by Churches Together. This year we are again teaming up with St Mary's, Cuddington to help run the refreshments stall. We need volunteers to help serve drinks or make cakes and to help setup/take down the stall. If you can spare even half and hour please add your name to the sign up sheet on the table by the glass doors. Please do not add any nuts to cakes. Thank you. DIGITAL HYMNAL You may have noticed the Digital Hymnal being used during services from time to time on a Sunday morning. It is a great resource to have available, is very easy to use with a little training, and can enhance our worship. We would love to have a wider group of people willing to operate the hymnal during services and if you would like to volunteer on an occasional 3 basis, please contact Mike Gittins, John Simon or a Churchwarden.
TRAIDCRAFT: This month, we will be offering Fair Trade goods from Traidcraft in the Parish Centre after the 10.00am service on Sunday 29th April. Please take this opportunity to look at some of our new products, and of course stock up on your regular food items particularly the double chocolate or stem ginger cookies, mints and the fabulous smooth fudge. We also have a good selection of cards. There are plenty of copies of the NEW SPRING CATALOGUE in church. Please do take one and if you see something you would like, please let us know and we will order it in with our next stock order. Mike and Veronica Gittins SOUND SYSTEM: The Fabric Committee has spent many months looking into a new sound system, getting quotes from different companies and comparing equipment etc. We are now pleased to announce that Newtech Southern should complete the installation of the new sound system during May. Newtech Southern have assured me that we will still be able to use our old sound system until the new one is fully tested and working. They are also aware of the need for no disturbance on Wednesday mornings between 10 and 11 a.m. We will of course monitor the work to see whether any part of the church needs to be sealed off during the installation. We are also looking for volunteers to be trained to set up and use the new sound system on a Sunday mornings. Please see Ken Mussell, John Simon or Claire Cornell if you could help us once a month with the new sound set up. Thanks Claire NESCOT CAFÉ: Our Friday lunchtime café in partnership with NESCOT students with Special Educational Needs is open for the Summer term. FOODBANK: Are you beginning to get the Foodbank habit? A lot of people find that it s a helpful discipline to add an item or two onto the weekly shopping list. If you are anything like me a list helps whilst wandering the aisles. The Foodbank issues a wishlist nearly every week. We get this transferred to a handout so it s possible to grab one as you enter church. The wishlist represents the items which are desperately needed. Just recently they have requested important necessities such as children toothbrushes and toothpaste, laundry powder and nappies. Please pick up a list and see if you can help. The Foodbank also holds fundraising activities. The next one is a coffee morning on 25th May 2018 from 10.30am at the Generation Resource Centre Ruxley Lane. Do go along if you can. St John s would like to send a team to the Quiz Night on Friday 22nd June in Ewell. Arrivals from 7pm for a prompt start at 7.30pm. Tickets are 6 and we need 8 people for a team. We need to book by 15th June so please give your name(s) to Polly Elder if you can help out. (two teams would be even nicer!!)= HEARING AID DROP-IN CLINIC: A free drop in clinic for local people with NHS hearing aids takes place at St. John's (in church) usually on the first Friday of each month 12 noon - 1pm. This service is run by volunteers trained by the audiology departments of Epsom & St Helier Hospital and hold training completion certificates. It is a Guildford Diocese initiative in partnership with the NHS. The service offers: basic hearing aid maintenance; battery supply; cleaning & re-tubing; troubleshooting & advice.
