THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK The best invitation you ll ever get! Both Isaiah and Matthew speak of an awesome banquet being prepared by God. Both announce that we are all invited to spend eternity at this incredible celebration. Sadly both also report that the response rate is very low and the level of excitement is off the chart (the bottom end!). What is the problem? Don t we like the company? It s God, the saints and our good relatives! Don t like the place? We re talking about heaven! Don t like the time? It s after we ve done our thing here on earth! Don t like the cost? It s free as long as we ask for and receive forgiveness for the times we have messed up. Schedule conflict? Better offer? Deal with it later? Too good to be true? We can all come up with a ton of excuses, but why are we even making excuses? The disciples and early Christians Servers Lectors Eucharistic Ministers Greeters were so excited and saw it as such an awesome invitation that they risked their lives to prepare for it and to extend the invitation to others. What s wrong with us? Have we made this life so comfortable that we re in no hurry to go anywhere else, not even heaven? Have we become so cynical that we are afraid to get our hopes up, that we ll believe it when we see it? God gave us the invitation early so that it could give direction and purpose to our life. If we are ignoring it, we re not only dissing God, we re settling for a life that has no direction, no lasting value and no purpose. How could anything on earth compare with what God is offering? Think about it! Now, send in that reply card and get excited!
