A Prayer Upon Entering: You have made us one, O Lord--one in purpose, one in mission, one in spirit, and one in faith. Help us to remain united in our ministry and bonded by our beliefs as we continue to serve You and one another. One Lord of all, may we worship You with one accord. OUR WORSHIP TODAY ORDER OF SERVICE:... As projected HYMNS:... Contemporary FIRST LESSON: Acts 1:12-26... Pg. 1156 SECOND LESSON: 1 John 5:9-15... Pg. 1304 GOSPEL LESSON: John 17:11b-19... Pg. 1149 SERMON: Strangers In An All-Too Familiar World John 17:11b-19 A JOYOUS WELCOME As you worship, sing praises, and pray with us this morning, it is our prayer that you, too, will rejoice in the salvation wrought for you by Jesus Christ and be built up on the true faith. Please sign our Guest Register found in the Narthex, join us for coffee following the service...and please come again very soon. WE CELEBRATE HOLY COMMUNION this week at our Wednesday service. Our Lord offers us His true body and blood for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our faith. By partaking of this Sacrament together, we confess our unity in faith and are drawn closer to one another and to the Lord. If you are a visitor, not belonging to the Lutheran Church-Canada, and wish to commune, please speak with the pastor before Wednesday s service. THE NURSERY is available for times that children are restless, and is equipped with a sound system to enable parents to continue worshipping. Because some of our children and parents have severe nut allergies, please keep the nursery a nut-free zone. LARGE PRINT HYMNS AND SERVICE are available for your use. Please pick up a copy from the tables at the back of the sanctuary, or ask an usher for a copy. CHILDREN S BULLETINS, crayons, scrap paper and busy bags are available on the bookshelves by the sanctuary doors for children to use during worship. JOIN US FOR COFFEE AND CONVERSATION following our worship this morning. Take a few moments to catch up with your brothers and sisters in Christ.

Lesa Jasper; Goodluck Nwaerondu Coffee Team...Belinda & Dave Perrin; Brenda Bode; Herb & Jane Gurski IN OUR PRAYERS THIS WEEK: In Hospital: Homebound: For Special Intercession: For Our Missions: Thank God for the caring mothers, grandmothers and fathers who volunteer their time in our preschool each month. Pray for the students looking for summer jobs, or careers for those who graduated. Family Focus: TODAY IN SUNDAY SCHOOL the children learned about Jesus teaching the Pharisee Nicodemus under the cover of night. Since the fall into sin, all are born spiritually blind, sinful and unclean. We are like Nicodemus and cannot see our sin or understand who Jesus truly is for us. As children of God, born of water and the Spirit, we can see our sinfulness and the salvation that is ours in Jesus Christ. Discuss with your children, How did Baptism change you? What does Baptism do? THE LUTHERAN HOUR: May 20 th Functional Atheist No More! (Acts 2:1-21; John 15:26-27). Christians like to think of themselves as following the first disciples. That s uncomfortably true. The first disciples had trouble believing the promises of Jesus for their daily lives. Too often we do too. On Pentecost the Spirit of the risen Lord Jesus gave the first disciples faith like they had never had before. Today the same Spirit is ready to do the same for us. This Week at FLC Monday 6:00 pm Mother / Daughter / Friend Dinner Tuesday 6:00 pm Constitution Committee Wednesday: 9:30 am Circuit Pastors in Drumheller 6:30 pm Worship with Communion 7:30 pm Choir Thursday: 7:00 pm Front to Back Bible Study @ Bodes Friday 7:00 pm Wedding Rehearsal Saturday: 1:00 pm Murray/Gerski Wedding Sunday: 9:00 am Education Hour (no Confirmation class) 10:15 am Traditional Worship with Communion FROM DR. MARTIN - Seventh Sunday of Easter - John 17:11b 19 If I cling to Christ in true faith and remain in Him, it is impossible for sin and death to accuse and condemn me; for Christ has conquered them. This, however, is accomplished, not by our strength but by faith in Him. In this way we, like pious lambs, remain resting in the arms of Christ, the faithful Shepherd. Therefore whoever is a Christian and takes hold of Christ by faith is not terrified by the devil; nor is he cowed by sin and death. LW 22:356 (56 vols.; St. Louis: Concordia Publishing House and Philadelphia: Fortress Press, 1955 1986). MISSION OF THE MONTH: Lutheran Hospital Ministries Through Lutheran Hospital Ministries of Southern Alberta trained visitors give support to Lutheran patients in Calgary and area hospitals and care centres through compassionate listening, prayer, and Scripture. Visitors are always needed, and regular training is scheduled. Your gift helps provide the resources and staffing that makes this ministry a blessing to those in the hospital and care centres of our area. CAN YOU PROVIDE A BILLET for a pastor or church leader attending the LCC Intercultural Ministry Conference, which will be held here at Foothills from June 14-16 (Thursday to Saturday). We haven t heard how many may be seeking this, but let s show our hospitality and be ready to welcome those who come. If you can host a guest those days, please speak to Pastor Bode. AVAILABLE on the welcome desk and for your reading pleasure are copies of the latest Mustard Seed publication, Seed News. Help yourself to a free copy. THE CREATION BIBLE STUDY: Come and join us during Sunday s Education Hour, as Ron Voss leads a discussion on creation and this truth of Scripture.

Contact Cheryl Lemke at cheryl.lemke@shaw.ca for more information. AS THE WEATHER BECOMES WARMER AND SUNNIER, we will see more and more people travelling on the weekends. God blesses His people with those times of relaxation and enjoyment, but He always reminds us that He is our perfect rest. He also zealously invites us to take time to be with Him yes, He even commands it for our good! As His trusting children, let us take time to gather with our Father in His house, around His Word and Sacraments. If you can t be here on Sunday, please remember that we have our midweek Wednesday services for that very reason. WE ANNOUNCE THE FORTHCOMING WEDDING of Devyn Murray and Jessie-Lynn Gerski, who will be united in holy matrimony this coming Saturday, May 19, 2018. We pray that God would bless this young couple as they begin their lives together as husband and wife. SUMMER SERMON SERIES: We will again offer you the opportunity to tell us, I ve always wanted to hear a sermon about Pastor Bode has received 7 requests, and there are a limited number of Sundays. Let us know what encouragement you would like from the Word of God! The forms for your submission are on the welcome desk. NOMINATION NOTICE: A list of candidates for various open PPC and Elder board positions has been posted outside the fellowship hall. There are NO candidates for a number of positions. The work of our congregation will not be

able to continue unless people are found for these positions. The Nomination committee asks that you prayerfully consider if you would be willing to serve the congregation in this capacity. Please contact the church office or Ralf Hinterleitner no later than May 22. All candidates will be ratified at the June 3 Voters meeting. PRAYER CHAIN: It is with grateful hearts that we acknowledge the many years that our sister in Christ, Bonnie Heumann, has carried out the task of facilitating the Foothills Lutheran prayer chain. She has asked to pass this duty on, and we will be sending out prayer e-mails from the office until a new facilitator has been found. If you are moved to consider taking on this very important role, please speak with Pastor Bode or Deaconess Miriam. OUR VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, GOOD NEWS! will be offered July 16-20 and July 23-27. The first week has spaces only in grades 2 5. There are still spaces available for all ages in the second week. We encourage our families to be evangelists in their communities by inviting a friend to come and hear the GOOD NEWS of salvation in Jesus Christ. Pick up a registration form at the information desk, or ask for one from Deaconess Miriam. We hope you will keep our efforts in your prayers, and especially the staff who will be sharing God s good news. You can also join us any day that week; we can always benefit from an extra pair of hands and feet! MOTHER S DAY FLOWERS: We pray that all the moms and the "motherly" enjoy their day. Thank you to those who purchased flowers to support the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter where moms and their children can seek a safe haven in times of turmoil. Thank you also for the monetary donations! Please remember to pick up your flowers for mom! BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN: Pick up a bottle on Mother s Day and over the next few weeks and fill it with coins, cash or a cheque. Return it to church on June 17, Father s Day. Every little bit helps women facing an unplanned pregnancy as well as programs for junior and senior high schools empowering students with healthy sexual decision-making and parenting programs at the center. If you have questions, please contact Heather Sommers. THIS PAST THURSDAY our Children's Choir shared their love of Christ by singing for the Manor residents. A good time was had by all. Thank you to those who helped with this event. Mark 12:31 The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."

OUR CHOIR will soon be winding up for the summer, and we look forward to the fall schedule. We hope that we will have new members raising their voices in song with us. We thank the choir members for the blessings they bring to our worship, and for their ministry of music! THE NEXT VOTER S MEETING is on Sunday, June 3 rd, following service. Voter s packages will soon be available. Please read through your package prior to the meeting and plan to attend. PASTOR ERIC IS LOOKING FOR BALL PLAYERS as we field a team for the district s Softball Tournament. (This will be the last district tournament!) The tourney is set for August 11-12, in beautiful Revelstoke. The sign-up list is on the wall outside Pastor Eric s office. Campsites and hotels will need to be booked soon, so join us today! JUST AS WE WERE GETTING READY TO PRINT, Pastor Bode received notice of a nomination for the synodical position of Regional Pastor, ABC Region. As this is a full time position, and would involve leaving the parish, he asks for your prayers and your wisdom as he seeks to respond to this nomination in a God-pleasing way.
