1828. Notes for LINCHFIELD WIMBERLY: Linchfield Wimberly enlisted in Knoxville, TN December 15, 1813 (15 years old). He was in Captain William Walker's Company, Col. Benton's 39th U. S. Infantry regiment, in the war of 1812. He was stationed at Fort Stodder, Fort Williams, Fort Jackson, Mt. Vernon, and Fort Montgomery, Alabama where he was discharged in November of 1815. He was a Private and served 2 years or 730 days. Linchfield and his wife lived near Dunlap, TN which is in Sequatchie County, TN ------------------------------------------------ War of 1812 Claim of widow for Pension, under the Provisions of Sections 4736 to 4740 inclusive Revised Statutes, and the Act of march 9, 1878. State of Tennessee ) County of Sequatchie) On this 30th day of March, A.D. one thousand eight hundred and seventy eight personally appeared before me, Clerk of the County Court, the same being a court of record within and for the county and state aforesaid, (1) Matilda Wimberly aged 69 years, a resident of Sequatchie County, in the State of Tennessee, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is a widow of (2) Linchfield Wimberly deceased, who was the identical (3) Linchfield Wimberly, who served under the name of (4) Linchfield Wimberly as a (5) Private in the company commanded by Captain Wm. Walker, in the regiment of 39th U.S. Inft., commanded by Col. unknown in the war of 1812; that her said husband (6) Volunteered at unknown on or about day of, A.D. 1814 for a term of 6 months, and continued in actual service in said war for the term of (7) 6 months, and whose services terminated, by reason of (8) Honorable Discharge at unknown place, on the day of, A.d. 1815. She further sates that the following is a full description of her said husband at the time of his enlistment, viz; (9) age about 18 years, occupation, Farmer, Born in Blount Co, TN. Height 6 ft, Black Hair, Blue eyes, dark complection. She further states that she was married to the said Linchfield Wimberly at the city (or town) of [Dunlap], in the County of Sequatchie, and in the State of Tennessee, on the 12th day of October, A.D. 1868, by one (10) F. M. McDonough, who was a (11) Justice of the Peace And that her name before her said marriage was Matilda Land; and she further states she and her husband had both been previously married. That the name of her first husband was Thomas Land. And that he died near Looney's Creek, P.O. in Marion County, Tennesse, on the 10th day of May, 1841, And that the maiden name of her husband's first wife was Diadama Lasater, and 2

that she died in Sequatchie County, Tenn. on the 5th day of October 1867. And that her said husband (13) Linchfield Wimberly, died at Sequatchie County, in the State of Tennessee, on the 15th day of December, A.D. 1875; And she further declares that the following have been the places of residence of herself and her said husband since the date of his discharge from the Army, viz: (14) Near Dunlap in Sequatchie County, State of Tennessee. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the pension to which she may be entitled under the provisions of Section 4736 to 4740 inclusive Revised Statues, and the Act of march 9, 1878, and herby constitutes and appoints with full powers of subsitution and revocation T. E. & B. F. Lloyd, of Washington D.C., her true and lawful attorney, to prosecute her claim, and she further declares that she has heretofore made no application of (15) bounty lands or pensions. Notes for JAMES CLAIBORN WIMBERLY: James Claiborne Wimberly was deafened in the Civil War. He died about 1902 or 1903 of Cancer and is buried at the Philadelphia Cemetery in North Grundy County, TN on the Bersheba Springs RD. Children of JAMES WIMBERLY and MARY CAIN are: 8. i.
