Salem Nat. Ev. Lutheran Church 32430 Ann Arbor Trail - Westland, Michigan - (734)422-5550 Sunday April 14, 2019 10:45 am Rev. Steven M. Newton Divine Service III (pages 184) Palm Sunday - Ask, Seek, Knock As We Gather We must continue to request God's presence in us, our daily Bread of Life, by His Spirit. We must ask, seek, and knock, constantly pursuing God, His Kingdom, and His righteousness. Jesus promises that when we ask of God, we will receive, and if we knock, closed doors will be opened for us. If you desire Holy Communion: The Lord s Supper is a sacrament in which Jesus body and blood are given in and with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins (Matthew 26:26-30). When we receive the Holy Communion at a church, we are making a public statement that we agree with the teachings of that church (1 Corinthians 10:14-18). The Bible cautions us against receiving the body and blood of Christ in a manner that is spiritually harmful (1 Corinthian 11:27 29). Therefore, we invite to the Lord s Supper only those who have been instructed and confirmed in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (Palms will be distributed as you enter the church) The Ringing of the Bells Welcome Opening Hymn (Please STAND) All Glory, Laud and Honor #442 CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C (Sing) Amen.
P Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. P Our help is in the name of the Lord, C (Sing) who made heaven and earth. P I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord, C (Sing) And You forgavest the iniquity of my sin. P Almighty God, our maker and redeemer, we poor sinners confess unto You that we are by nature sinful and unclean and that we have sinned against You by thought, word and deed. Wherefore we flee for refuge to Your infinite mercy, seeking and imploring Your grace for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ. C O most merciful God, who has given Your only begotten Son to die for us, have mercy upon us and for His sake grant us remission of all our sins; and by Your Holy Spirit increase in us true knowledge of You and of Your will and true obedience to Your Word, to the end that by Your grace we may come to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. (Pastor will speak the absolution) C (Sing) Amen. SERVICE OF THE WORD Introit Gloria Patri(Sing) Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall speak peace to the nations; his rule shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth. As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope; today I declare that I will restore to you double. P This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. Choir and Children Lo, He Comes The Epistle- 1 John 5:13-15 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. P This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. 3
