From The East Brethren, October like the rest of this year has been a busy Masonic month. We had two Master Mason degrees. A warm welcome is extended to our two new Master Masons, Brother Reuben Paul Miller, and Brother Rayna Dustin Stanley. Tonight 28 October 2010 we will be celebrating the 49 th Annual Mason Knight dinner. This is an event which provides Masons and Knights the opportunity to fellowship, enjoy a good meal, and have fun while raising funds for a local charity. As your Master, I appreciate all the Brothers who have continued to support the degree work throughout the year. Again I want to stress that your support either on the sidelines or part of the degree team makes a huge impact on the candidates being initiated, passed, and raised. Again thank you for supporting the Masonic work of your Lodge, and I especially applaud you for being members of our great fraternity. We had a good turn out for recognizing our 25 and 50 year members. It was an honor to have PGM Michael Bishop, present the awards. A special recognition for Brother Bob Wilson was made recognizing his 60 years of Masonic membership. meeting we will be electing Brothers to serve on the Temple Management Board, and the Board of Trustees. Once again, the Grand Master of the Free & Accepted Masons in Arizona Most Worshipful Brother Jim Rowan cordially invites all you Brothers, Sisters, Sons and Daughters from our extended Masonic family to join with us in this year s Leadership Conferences. As members of our Blue Lodges, York Rite, Scottish Rite, Shrine, Grotto, Eastern Star, Amaranth, Beauceant, True Kindred, White Shrines, Demolay, Rainbow and Job s Daughters we are all one great Masonic family and this year s sessions are once again designed for all of you. Register by 15 Dec 2010 cost of $20. Please ask the lodge secretary for a registration form. Look forward to seeing you attend your Lodge. Fraternally, Harry C. Brown, Master Reminder that our annual election of Officers will be at the November stated meeting. One major requirement (other than being a member in good standing) is to be certified by the District Deputy Grand Lecturer (WB Johnnie Wagener). The elected officer positions are Master, Senior and Junior Wardens, Treasurer, and Secretary. Also, at the November stated 2 http://www.huachuca53.org

From The Yest Brethren, This time of year I am reminded of our principal tenants, Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. As we transition from all hallows eve, a time for reflecting on our ancestors, to the Christmas holiday season we need to remember that for many people this is a depressing time of year. Traditionally the Christmas (Yule, Chanukah) season is a joyous time of year. It is also the time of year with the highest rate of suicides. We, as a Lodge, need to remember our Brothers and ensure that we contact them during the holidays. A simple phone call could go a long way in bringing a smile to the face of a Brother (and his family). This will take effort, and time but the results will be worth it. I ask each of you to contact the Lodge secretary and offer to contact five (5) Brothers and live up to the tenant of Brotherly Love. The economy has hit everyone hard and many are trying to maintain previous lifestyles on less. We, as Masons, have the obligation to aid and assist, as best we can, our fellow Brothers and if possible all of mankind. While assisting everyone is impossible, providing assistance to a few is realistic. The Lodge, led by WB Bob Whitney, supports the Carmichael school district at Thanksgiving and Christmas but this budgeted charity should not be the limit of our assistance. There is a seldom used food basket in the hallway of the Lodge which, at one time, was used to support local food pantries. I would ask each of you to consider bringing in a few items each time you come to Lodge for a meeting or degree. If we all support this we can provide much more assistance to many more people and live up to the tenant of Relief. Truth is a divine attribute seldom practiced it its pure from. This is the reason that many people who make New Year s resolutions fail within the first month. I would ask each of you to consider your actions, obsessions, passions, and motives over the past year. Think about the things which have served you well and those that have not. An honest self-assessment will help you make attainable resolutions and demonstrate the tenant of Truth. Wishing each of you happiness and success in your endeavors. Phillip Shulsky, Senior Warden October 28th, we had the 49th KC-Mason dinner at Huachuca 53 and raised over $1,100.00 for local charities. There were 20 Masons and 15 Knights present and a great time was had by all. Next year will be our 50th year and will be grand. ~Bro. Brother Jay Land for his unwavering assistance in the kitchen, thank you Brother you were a blessing. And to all the Brethren of Huachuca #53 with your help in every way imaginable, you assisted in helping the Lodge make this a very successful dinner. Intentionally Blank By Brother Phillip Shulsky Mentorship is a crucial part of what we do. It begins when we sign as a recommender on a candidate s petition and continues the rest of his life. So much of what we do is unwritten. Case in point Lodge etiquette. I ve never actually seen a written document listing all the rules of how we behave in lodge. I ve learned that most seem to be common sense, but a few were not. As I made mistakes, I was constructively corrected by brothers. Thus, they are my mentors. The point is we are all mentors. Young masons, like me, watch the older, more experienced masons. We copy your behaviors and attitudes. We look to you to make us better men. It s a heavy responsibility, I m sure. Mentorship I would like to personally thank all of the active masons of our lodge for mentoring me. I must highlight a couple of our brothers for the extra time and effort they put in with me, and most of the new mason of the last year. Bro Matt Covel has personally carried most of the candidates of the last year through their proficiencies and has strongly encouraged learning the rituals. WB Andy Anderson, in addition to all the other things he does, runs a ritual practice every Tuesday at 5PM at the lodge. It is here, at the practices, where I have learned the most. (Scottish Rite Mason) This is the highest or official degree which can only be granted and conferred by the Supreme Council. It cannot be applied for. Each year at the annual meeting of the Supreme Council, a member of Thirty-second Degree Masons from throughout the Jurisdiction, are elected to receive the Thirty-third Degree because of outstanding service to the Fraternity or for service to others which reflect credit upon the Order. Nominations for the Thirty-third Degree are made by the Deputies of each of the Districts after consultation with their fellow Active members in each District. Nominations are then submitted to the entire Active Membership of the Supreme Council for ballot. Following election, candidates await the next annual meeting when the Degree is conferred in full ceremonial form. THE DEGREE STRUCTURE OF SCOTTISH RITE MASONRY The Lodge of Perfection - 4th degree thru the 14 degree. The Council - 15th degree thru the 16 degree. The Chapter - 17th degree thru the 18 degree. The Consistory - 19th degree thru the 32 degree. The Scottish Rite shares the belief of all Masonic organizations that there is no higher degree than that of the third degree Master Mason. The Cochise Scottish Rite Club is responsible of conferring twice each year at least eight degrees providing that we have enough Scottish Rite Masons. The second question was "Why is the Master Mason Degree called Sublime?" Answer, because of the solemnity of the ceremony and its profound lessons of wisdom. The question for October is "What does the Fellowcraft Mason represent?" The answer next month. Do you have question about Freemason that you would like to see under question of the month article? Talk to the newsletter editor and I'm sure we can accommodate your question. Taking Good Men, and Making Them Better 9
