Worship submitted by Lanna Moxley Casual Worship You are invited to join us in dressing casually for worship services, beginning May 21st and lasting through the hot Summer months. Our hope is that dressing casually will allow you to enjoy worship more comfortably. Communion Changes During the summer, we will also partake in communion AFTER the sermon, rather than before. In preparation of the upcoming construction, we will have communion by Intinction, beginning May 21st. The Elders will serve the communion at the front of the sanctuary. The kitchen will be unavailable this Summer and the Communion sets will be packed away and stored in a safe place. We are hopeful that these changes will enhance our worship experience during the summer months. Please come and worship with us whenever you and your family are in town. Less than 70 days! The 2017 General Assembly is just over two months away and there are a multitude of ways to get ready to be ONE with a few thousand other Disciples. Study the ONE text: John 17:20-21a using the studies provided by seminary scholars Pick out the ONE learning community that most interests you and while you re at it, pick ONE Sunday afternoon workshop, too Be ready to worship as ONE Look for the notice of the ONE docket being posted online so you can read about all the ways we fulfill our call to be ONE Get your red clothes or your chalice couture on and post a selfie with #DOCWeAreOne Register now at http://disciples.org/ga

Youth Ministry submitted by Kristine Tisinger The end of the school year is rapidly approaching, with only a few Wednesday night youth groups left before we go on hiatus for the summer. Our end of year party and Youth Sunday practice run-through will be May 17, with the Youth Sunday happening at the Parish on May 21. We hope that you ll be able to join us for this special service. Summer is the season of camps, and I hope you ll consider sending your student to Mo Ranch, Disciples Crossing, or Bridgeport Methodist Camp. Camp offers the opportunity to make friends, develop fellowship, and explore new ideas about faith within each tradition. It can be an important building block in a student s faith journey. The Parish will pay half of the cost for any student to attend Disciples Crossing or Mo Ranch. Additional scholarships are also available. For information on these, please contact Kristine by phone or text at 817-863-1555. Camp dates can be found in the newsletter, on each camp s website, and outside of Kristine s office. Rides, camp sponsors, and payment must be arranged in advance so please don t put off registration! Presbyterians from around the country are invited to live out their faith at Big Tent 2017 in St. Louis, Missouri. This biennial gathering will take place July 6 8, on the campus of Washington University. The theme Race, Reconciliation and Reformation will emphasize the hope of the gospel and its power to transform society in our current cultural context marked by anxiety, racial division, political animosity and economic inequality. Big Tent is one of the finest denominational events put on by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), said Tony De La Rosa, Interim Executive Director of the Presbyterian Mission Agency. Three days of quality programming held in a central, convenient location at a reasonable cost for participants this year s Big Tent gathering promises to be among the best ever. The opening worship preacher will be PC(USA) Stated Clerk, the Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson II. The Rev. Dr. Christine Hong, Assistant Professor of Worship and Evangelism and Chapel Worship Coordinator at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, will be the closing worship preacher. Registration starts March 15 and is $395. The price includes registration, accommodations for three nights and meals. For updates visit pcusa.org/bigtent.

Lord s Acre Disbursement May 3rd Make plans to attend the annual Lord s Acre Auction Disbursement Celebration at the Fellowship Hall of the Parish on May 3rd at 12:45. Community service organizations will be on hand to receive their checks from the funds generated from the 2016 auction. The Mission and Stewardship Committee has chosen the following civic groups and their monetary awards for distinction: Concerned Citizens of Jack County-$1500.00 Gladys Richie Johnson Public Library-$1500.00 Jacksboro Community Food Pantry- $1500.00 Jack County Child Welfare Board/Rainbow Room-$500.00 STOMP- $500.00 It is a great honor to continue the mission and service of this congregation. Refreshments will be served. Remember the fun, the costumes, the staging, the music, the crafts, and most importantly the smiles on the children s faces! VBS - June 13-15, 6-8pm You will once again have the chance to be transported back in time as we explore The Holy Place: Life with Moses and the Tabernacle. Children will get the chance to learn about such things as Passover, the Ten Commandments, and the parting of the Red Sea. It promises to be another great VBS experience for all! Look forward to VOLUNTEER SIGN UPS on these Sundays: May 21, 28, & June 4. ORIENTATION is scheduled on June 10 from 9-10:30am. Hope to see you there, Cindy Hackley and the Education Committee

From the desk of. Rev. Dr. Suzanne Castle ALWAYS REMEMBER THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN CONTRIBUTION AND COMMITMENT. FOR EXAMPLE, TAKE THE MATTER OF BACON AND EGGS. THE HEN MAKES A CONTRIBUTION. THE PIG MAKES A COMMITMENT. JACK CARTER The days are warmer. Last minute items to close out the school year are upon us. People are frantically trying to figure out vacation plans. And I m here stuck thinking about contribution vs. commitment because of this quote. How many of us spend our times with great items on our TO DO List: work out, attend family functions, go to church, expand our knowledge base, volunteer; but fail to see those times as true commitment. I m wondering with you how many of us are making a contribution, instead. In these months ahead it will take ALL of us being flexible around construction mess, changes to worship because of such mess, a burgeoning and growing preschool program, changes to our youth staff, and the long days of summer when worship seems less urgent to really be COMMITTED. I want to urge you to consider how you can make church part of your summer commitments. Some ideas might include: 1. Food Pantry assistance. Not just bringing food, but volunteering the 3rd Monday of the month possibly with your kids to see the impact food has in our community. 2. Checking in on the Nursing Home, and those that are housebound, or lonely. Can you spare 10 minutes to share some cookies and stories with them? 3. Volunteering to help us organize, clean and tidy our church property, both inside and out, so that we don t lose track of the beauty of our holy space. 4. Committing to attend worship 3x a month. 5. Partnering with ONE member you wish you knew better and having a monthly gettogether with that family. Commitment comes in many forms. We talk frequently about financial contributions that allow us to do impactful ministries, but this season, I want you to also consider commitment to your spiritual growth. Come talk to me and let s find a place for you to exercise your PIG SKILLS this summer!
