The Church of St. Margaret Mary October 21, 2018 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time You Are Welcome Here! We re glad you re here. Wherever you are on your journey of faith, you have a home with us. Weekend Mass Schedule Saturday Mass 4:30 pm Sacrament of Reconciliation 4:00 pm Sunday Mass 10:00 am with Children s Liturgy of the Word Weekday Mass Schedule Monday: no Mass Tuesday: 5:30 pm Adoration 6:30 pm Mass Wednesday: 8:00 am Thursday: 8:00 am Friday: no Mass Experiencing the Heart of Christ, we Know Jesus in Word and Worship. Live Jesus in a vibrant, welcoming Catholic community. Serve Jesus in outreach and justice.

Reflection from Father Tom Servant Leader Whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of all. Jesus life and his words are so clear to us that he came to the world to serve and not be served. He mentions in the gospel reading today that one should be a slave if he/she wishes to be first. It may sound paradoxical, but it is the perfect way to paradise. Jesus exemplified this way to paradise by washing the feet of his disciples. In the leadership courses of today, we may come across the concept of servant leadership, which means the leader of the company should be a servant who will be ready to serve the company and the employees. He/she is expected to model the way to his/ her fellow employees. Even the modern salesperson should focus on the method of consultative selling, which is focused on serving or helping the customer to get the best product for the money. All these modern theories of our daily life or business are derived from our Lord Jesus who humbled himself as a slave and died for us all. As followers of Jesus, we need to emulate his principle servant leader to guide our children and those who are under our care. Liturgy Celebrating Our Faithful Departed All Soul's Day and Necrology The Feast of All Soul's Day, properly titled as the "Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed" is celebrated each year on November 2nd. The theological basis for the feast is the doctrine that the souls which, on departing from the body, are not perfectly cleansed from venial sins, or have not fully atoned for past transgressions, are debarred from the Beatific Vision, and that the faithful on earth can help them by prayers, almsdeeds and especially by the sacrifice of the Mass. In other countries, especially in Latin America, the feast is augmented with traditions of offering candles, flowers, music, food, and celebrations in remembrance of those who have passed. While we will not have a specific liturgy said this year on Nov. 2nd as it falls on a Friday, we as a congregation will still remember and pray for our faithful departed the weekend of November 3-4. On Sunday the 4th, there will be a special remembrance of our congregation members who have passed over the last year. Please join us in praying for them and all of the faithful departed. Prayer: Lord, give me the pride of being your humble servant. Amen. Adult Faith Formation Advent Reflection Day "As We Wait in Joyful Hope: The Spirituality, Scriptures and Music of Advent, Year C" A presentation by Fr. Michael Joncas on Sat, Dec 1st at 2:00 pm in Visitation Hall The Adult Faith Formation committee invites you to an afternoon of prayer, reflection, and music as we enter the Advent season. Our speaker is Fr. Michael Joncas, celebrated author and composer of such hymns as "On Eagle's Wings." Mass to follow at 4:30. Mass will be celebrated at 8:00 am and at 7:00 pm.

People of St Margaret Mary Hospitality deceased living Hospitality Ministers Needed Everyone loves to chat and have donuts after Mass; that is why we offer hospitality after the 10:00 am Mass on the second and fourth weekends of most months. We have a couple of wonderful people who regularly host these events but they need more volunteers to help them. Perhaps you could come at 9:15 am and assist with the preparation (takes about 1/2 hour) or perhaps you would like to help with the pouring of the coffee during the event. Please call the parish office to offer to help. Opportunities at SMM Cleaning: We are looking for someone to clean the church and Visitation Hall on a weekly bases. This involves vacuuming, cleaning the restrooms and removing the trash. Snow Removal: Looking for someone to remove snow from the sidewalks around the church, school and parish office. We have the equipment. (If there is an inch or more of snow overnight, removal by the entrance of school should be complete before buses arrive at 7:00 am and by the church doors before Mass.) If you are interested in either of these paid positions, contact Diane Mareck for more information at dmareck@smm-gv.org Social Ministry As the seasons change, the needs of many individuals and families change. PRISM with your help will strive to meet the needs by collecting winter clothing, jackets, mittens and sweaters. Please be as generous as you are able. PRISM needs for the month include dental care, hair care products and other hygiene supplies. Basic food items such as peanut butter, canned food and cereal are needed. PRISM will be collecting toys for the annual toy drive. Toys for all ages, especially teens, are needed. Leftover toys will be used for birthday gifts for PRISM s clients. Respect Life During the month of October we are called to be even more aware of the need for messengers of God s love and instruments of His healing. With renewed urgency, we realize our personal call to help others encounter God s transforming, life-giving love and to defend the sanctity of every person s life, at every stage and in every circumstance. This year s Respect Life theme is Every Life: Cherished, Chosen, Sent. Faith Formation / Children s Choir Wed, Oct 24 Children s Choir meets at 5:30 pm Faith Formation meets 6:30-7:45 pm Volunteer Opportunity We are looking for high school or college age students or other interested adults who have received their Confirmation to help lead the Children s Liturgy of the Word on Sundays. Please consider how you can help our programs. If you are interested, please contact Josh Diaz. Today we speak up through our prayers and financial help to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith for our brothers and sisters in the Mission.
