Gospel: Mark 10:35-45 Two of the disciples ask Jesus that they be allowed to sit at his right and left side when he comes into his glory. Jesus explains that they should not be concerned with their position. Instead they should concern themselves with serving others just as Jesus was planning to serve many in giving his own life for their sins. Since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, for he has similarly been tested in every way, yet without sin. So let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and to find grace for timely help. When the Father sent the Son as our redeemer, Jesus assumed every part of our humanity, except sin. For this reason He knows and understands us, with our strengths and weaknesses, our cares and concerns. Because of His identity with us, I am able to seek Him out in my every need. He knows my deep desire to live as a faithful disciple. He knows that when I fail, He is awaiting me with open arms. Because of His closeness to me, I go to Him without fear, as He gives me the gift of His mercy and grace. myparish App Stay up-to-date with what is going on in your parish throughout the week. What is the Communion of Saints? The Communion of Saints is the family of God. Saints are everyone in heaven, people and angels. People never become angels. We remain people and will even get our bodies back (but perfected) at the Second Coming. The Communion of Saints refers to both the individuals who make up God s family, and the relationship that we continue to have that extends beyond time and space. We continue to pray for those who have died, and when they re in heaven, they pray for us. The funeral liturgy says that, our relationship is changed, not ended. As we approach All Saint s Day and All Soul s Day, we remember those who have gone before us and we remember the bonds of friendship that don t ever fail, even in death. The Solemnity of All Saint s was designated in the early Church to celebrate all the folks that couldn t fit on to the Church s liturgical calendar for Feast Days. As the martyrs were being made in the early Church, the date that they were killed became their feast day. But, there were so many that there weren t enough days in the year. Plus, some of the martyrs and people who died in right relationship with Jesus simply weren t known to the community, so All Saint s became a day to celebrate them all. All Souls Day is when we pray for our beloved dead who might still be in Purgatory. We believe that our prayers can strengthen them, and make them more open to accepting God s mercy and making them more fit for heaven. We will celebrate a Mass of Remembrance for our deceased loved ones on November 2 nd at 7:00pm Bus Trip to Sight & Sound The Religious Education department is hosting a bus trip to see Jesus at Sight & Sound on September 21 st, 2019.
