*The Hymn #529 Lord of the Living (Presby Hymnal) The Offertory Invitation We are here today because of the choices made by those who came before us. They chose to give their time, their talents, their resources, and their lives in service to the Lord. They chose to share their faith. Inspired by their example and Christ s call, let us bring before the Lord our tithes and offerings. Please sign and pass the Friendship Registers located at the end of your pews. Thank you! People: Therefore, we will not fear, Leader: Though the earth should change, People: Though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea. Leader: The Lord of Hosts is with us; People: The God of Jacob is our refuge. (Portions of Psalm 46) The Opening Prayer (In Unison) Eternal God, you lead your people like a loving shepherd, guiding us through the different seasons of life. Sometimes, our paths lead to pastures of abundant growth and joy. Sometimes, we travel through valleys made desolate by sorrow and loss. But wherever we travel, you are with us comforting us, leading us, loving us. Speak to us in this time of worship, Lord. Help us to sense your caring presence. Help us to trust in your boundless grace and steadfast love. Amen. *The Opening Hymn #666 Sing with All the Saints in Glory (STTL) (Ushers will collect prayer requests. Please pass them to the side aisles.) *The people will rise in body or spirit

The Prayer of Confession (In Unison) Merciful God, you ask us to join in the great race of faith, but we are not always the runners you call us to be. Weighed down by sin, we limp rather than sprint. Distracted by other goals, we wander off course. Forgive us, Lord. Release us from all that encumbers and slows our steps. Empower us to freely and joyfully run the course that you have set before us, through the grace of Christ. Amen. A Time of Silent Confession The Assurance of Pardon The Congregation Sings in Response Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. In our lives, Lord, be glorified today. The Sermon A Cloud of Witnesses Rev. Merry Meloy The Hymn #364 I Sing a Song of the Saints of God (Presby Hymnal) The Church Responds *The Affirmation of Faith - Apostles' Creed (In Unison) I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Recognition of Those Who Have Died The Litany of Christian Hope: Leader: Listen, I will tell you a mystery! We will not all die, but we will all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye. People: For this perishable body must put on imperishability, And this mortal body must put on immortality. Leader: Then the saying that is written will be fulfilled: Death has been swallowed up in victory. People: Where, O Death, is your victory? Where, O Death, is your sting? Leader: The sting of death is sin, And the power of sin is the law. People: But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Leader: Jesus says: People: Do not let your hearts be troubled, And do not let them be afraid. Leader: For I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, People: And everyone who lives and believes in me Will never die. (Portions of 1 Corinthians 15, John 14, & 11) The Prayers of the People and Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Communion Next Sunday We will celebrating the Lord s Supper together during worship next Sunday, January 25th. Please plan to join us. New Adult Ed Series: Revelation Revealed Join us for a fresh look at the last book of the Bible the famous (or infamous) "Revelation to John." This book has led some people to near insanity and others to a profound realization of God's saving grace. It has provided the seed for doomsday books, movies and sermons as well as inspiring music and children's stories, Some people refuse to read it, while others base their lives and religion on it as if it were the only book in the Bible. So what can we make of it? With Rev. Jim Campbell as our guide, we will try to set the book in its historical context and gain a greater understanding of the author s purpose. From there, we will explore what it can teach us today. Rev. Campbell has noticed that much of Revelation is written as a fantastic picture book but the pictures are in words, paragraphs and chapters. Often these word pictures are difficult to imagine so we will be looking at artists' renditions of some of the images. Though some of the pictures would be rated R for violence, we will end up singing halleluiah just in time for the upcoming Easter season. Our study will run through February 8 th. We meet at 9:15 in the church library. There s a seat waiting for you! Happy Birthday to: January 22 Patty Walters January 22 Barbara Gallagher January 23 Chuck King Alternative Gift Fair THANK YOU Thank you to everyone for making the Youth s Alternative Gift Fair a huge success.
