Descendants of William E. Akers Generation No. 1 1. William E. 4 Akers (William 3, William 2, William 1 ) was born Bet. 1731-1737 1,2, and died Abt. 1834. He married Mary Blackburn Abt. 1764 in Buckingham Co., Virginia 3, daughter of William Blackburn II. She was born Abt. 1740 4, and died Abt. 1830 in Franklin Co., Virginia 5. Notes for William E. Akers: "William Akers (IV) served in the American Army during the Revolutionary War (1775-1783). He and his family resided in the Clinch River Valley of Virginia" (Jenny Wiley Country, pg. 13). According to "The Shearer Akers Family" he also settled in Franklin Co., Virginia. This has been supported by the fact that he is listed in the 1785 Franklin Co., Virginia Personal Property Tax list with one tithe, two slaves under 16, seven horses, and fifteen cattle. Note: All census prior to 1850 did not have names except for the heads of household. All other individuals were only mentioned as numbers according to their ages. Therefore any census prior to 1850 could be incorrectly placed with the wrong individual. I have tried to place the census that I believe due to name and location of the ancestor and ages of known children in these notes, but I am not infallible. So any census prior to 1850 should be used as a reference to location where more records might be found, and possibly the number of children and their ages. Note also that these children may not have been the children of the head of the household, they may have been cousins or nephews or even children of friends of the family. We do not know. These census have been placed here as I have found them for further reference. 1810 Census of Franklin Co., Virginia, Series M252, Roll 68, pg. 593, line 2 Acres, William Sr., 0-0-1-1-1 0-0-0-0-1-0-4 Translation: 1 male 16-26, 1 male 26-45, 1 male 45+, 1 female 45+, 4 slaves line 3 is a Burwell Akers, I do not have anything on him perhaps related since this doesn't seem to be in alphabetical order and he is right next to Samuel Akers and William Akers, Sr. perhaps an unknown child or grandchild? Brackin). Also was the notation "from her uncle, John Mossum", perhaps this was from John Mossum's will which was dated 7 October 1754 (Cumberland Co., Virginia Will Book 1, pg. 97).
