Appointment of an Acting Diocesan Bishop Bishop Richard Inwood has been appointed as the acting Diocesan Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham for the next 12 months or until the confirmation of election of the new Diocesan Bishop, whichever is earlier. He takes over the role from the Bishop of Sherwood, the Rt Revd Tony Porter, who has been in ill health. He took on the role of acting Diocesan Bishop when Bishop Paul Butler moved to Durham early this year. Bishop Richard retired from being Bishop of Bedford in March 2012 and since then he has been assistant bishop in Southwell and Nottingham. St Giles Come Dine With Us This year, to raise funds for Christian Aid, a number of St Giles finest chefs will be hosting delicious meals for you between 7th and 17th May, over Christian Aid Week. If you are interested in hosting a meal please talk to Johanna Langheld or Jude Hill, (or email johanna_langheld@hotmail.co.uk), or if you would like to do your bit by eating and drinking for Christian Aid, there are sign up sheets for different meals at the back of church. Dates for Seniors Diaries Thursday 29th May - by popular demand we are organising another Film Afternoon in Church. This time we will start at 12.30pm - bring yourself a packed lunch and we will provide tea/coffee and maybe even cake. As before admission is free and there will be cartoons, newsreel and a feature film and we promise the Church will be warmer than last time. Thursday 5th June - an Outreach Event will take place 2.00-4.00pm in Church. The aim is to try and involve more Seniors in the parish in our activities. There will be a Beetle Drive, quiz and of course tea/coffee and cake. I am sure we all know someone either neighbour, friend or relative who doesn't get out or mix much so invite them along and make them feel part of our Senior's group. Watch the Bulletin for more details. Monday 14th July - this year our annual outing is to Burghley House, near Stamford. As this is not a National Trust property the cost will be higher than before at 20 per person. This includes coach, admission and of course our fabulous Tall Frog picnic lunch. Put the date in your diary and watch for more information nearer the time. Christian's Against Poverty course at St Luke s St Luke's Church (on Leahurst Road, West Bridgford) is hosting a CAP money course again this May to help local people manage their money and gain a better understanding of what they earn and what they spend. The course is provided by Christian's Against Poverty (CAP) and is full of practical tips to help people budget, understand where their money goes and learn how to save. The course runs over three weeks on Thursday 1st, 8th and 15th May, starting at 8pm. This course is for everyone, not just those who go to church, but booking is essential - please contact St Luke's church office on 0115 974 5024 to reserve your place. from people who have found new confidence in managing their finances - for more information take a look at www.capmoney.org. St Giles Weekend Away 2015 The first ever St Giles Weekend Away. It will take place 13th 15th March 2015 at Hothorpe Hall in Leicestershire. There are fliers and booking forms at the back of church. There is also an article in this month s Church Drive with further information, and you can go to www.hothorpe.co.uk to take a look at the venue. If there is anything more that you would like to know, then please do speak to Lee. Booking forms and a 25 deposit per adult need to be in by 23rd May, prior to our first payment to the venue to Claire, in the office, please. We really hope that you can come along, to spend time with our church family, to relax and be refreshed together. Adrian Plass at St Luke s With material from the book 'Adrian Plass and the Church Weekend', the Searchlight Theatre Company is performing at St Luke s Church, Gamston, at 7.30pm on Friday 2nd May. It will be an evening full of theatre, stories, music and laughter. Some of Adrian s much loved characters come together under one retreat centre s roof for 48 hours - and there is no escape. The results are predictably hilarious, touching and heart warming. Tickets are 12 ( 10 groups & concessions) and are available from St Luke s on 0115 974 5024. Music for Everyone gets West Bridgford singing! Nottingham based music education charity, Music for Everyone, is recruiting for singers to join their daytime choir in West Bridgford. Daytime Voices is especially designed for singers of all abilities and experience - the choir rehearse on a Tuesday afternoon 2pm-4pm at West Bridgford Baptist Church. We welcome everyone. St Giles Mission Partners Christian Aid Week is coming: 11th 17th May 2014 The focus of this year s fundraising at St Giles will be the Come Dine With Us events taking place in people s homes and in church throughout Christian Aid Week. If you would like to get involved please speak to Johanna Langheld. You could host a meal, or you can do your bit by being an enthusiastic guest at someone else s meal! There are sign up sheets for meals at the back of church. House to House Collections This year's collections will take place during Christian Aid week of 11th - 18th May. St. Giles is responsible for collecting on about 30 roads around West Bridgford. This involves posting envelopes through doors at the beginning of the week and then returning on 1 or 2 evenings later in the week to collect the envelopes. If you are able to spare a few hours that week and think you may be able to help, please do get in touch with Matt or Debbie Keown (07734 547775 or 0115 914 9684). Tomato and Plant Sale Advance notice that Averyl Rushby and Dizzy Prentice will once again be offering for sale their wonderful collection of plants in aid of Christian Aid. Pray for the volunteers and church workers who will be walking closely with many of the internationals after Word Alive. Pray that godly discipleship will take place and that a deep devotion and love for our Saviour will be birthed in the hearts of many.
