St. Mary Churches-Omro, Winneconne www.stmarychurches.org Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 15, 2018 Joppa Mountain Mission Trip August 18-25 St. Mary, Omro volunteers will be working with local missioner, immersed into the local culture and actively take part in mission outreach efforts. The week-long session is a retreat-like mission immersion blending the values of service, culture, prayer, reflection and sharing in an environment of simple living. Our volunteers will be bringing much needed items for the Glenmary Home Missioners. Mission Items Needed: School supplies (ages 6-18) Notebooks, paper, pens, pencils, crayons, scissors, etc... Books (all ages) Used or new books Paint & Construction supplies Brushes, scrapers, utility knives, etc... Monetary donations (checks made to: Glenmary Missioners) Donations will be used for home repairs & renovations Please place all items in the basket in Marian Hallway under our Sister Parish St. Michaels display. Thank you for your help with our mission! Love the poor, the sick and helpless, and attend to them. They are God s influentials. They are his aristocrats. He loves them. If you are known in your community as the contact for all the poor and unfortunate of the place, you could not have a more honorable title on earth or one that would make you more welcome in the courts of Heaven. Dear Parishioners, PASTORAL LEADER S NOTES A Travel Prayer: Psalm 121 I lift up my eyes to the mountains; from where shall come my help? My help shall come from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will keep your foot from stumbling. Your guard will never slumber. No, he sleeps not nor slumbers, the guardian of Israel. The Lord your guard, the Lord your shade at your right hand. By day the sun shall not smite you, nor the moon in the night. The Lord will guard you from evil, he will guard your soul. The Lord will guard your going and coming, both now and forever. Many of us are traveling during these summer days. And we know all travel has its hazards, as the author of this biblical travel prayer knew very well. We know all the practical precautions: be watchful, take sunscreen, protect your identity documents. The most important thing to remember is that we never go unprotected because we never go alone. Our God never sleeps. He never goes off duty. Night and day, as we leave and return, we are always under the protection of Love in all its creative inventiveness and abiding strength, greater than the strength of mountains. So, take whatever you need for your trip, but pack Psalm 121 in your pocket. Take it out and read it along the way. Read it at home, for that matter. It contains the one promise that will never be broken: God s love is with us always. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Sr. Genevieve Glen ~ adapted This week you will be receiving a postcard in the mail to register for the Alpha Experience. These weekly ninety minute sessions will continue for ten weeks beginning the week of September 16 and run through the week of December 2, 2018. Each session will include a meal provided by the parish and the 26 minute Alpha film followed by a 30 minute discussion. I hope you will say yes to this opportunity for all of us to grow in our faith as Catholic Christians and explore the questions of life, faith and meaning through the Alpha Experience. Please be sure to fill out the Registration Form and return it to church as soon as possible so we can continue planning for this experience in our parish and grow in becoming missionary disciples. Sr. Pam

STEWARDSHIP (Winn. & Omro) A Guide to Lectio Divina Choose a word or phrase of the Scriptures you wish to pray. It makes no difference which text is chosen, as long as you have no set goal of covering a certain amount of text. The amount of text covered is in God s hands, not yours. Read. Turn to the text and read it slowly, gently. Savor each portion of the reading, constantly listening for the still, small voice of a word or phrase that somehow says, I am for you today. Do not expect lightning or ecstasies. In lectio divina, God is teaching us to listen, to seek him in silence. God does not reach out and grab us but gently invites us ever more deeply into his presence. Ponder. Take the word or phrase into yourself. Memorize it and slowly repeat it to yourself, allowing it to interact with your inner world of concerns, memories, and ideas. Do not be afraid of distractions. Memories or thoughts are simply parts of yourself that, when they rise up during lectio divina, are asking to be given to God along with the rest of your inner self. Allow this inner pondering, this rumination, to invite you into dialogue with God. Pray. Whether you use words, ideas, or images or all three is not important. Interact with God as you would with one who you know loves and accepts you. Give to God what you have discovered during your experience of meditation. Give to God what you have found within your heart. It is not necessary to assess the quality of your lectio divina, as if you were performing or seeking some goal. Lectio divina has no goal other than that of being in the presence of God by praying the Scriptures. Fr. Luke Dysinger Luke Dysinger, OSB, is a Benedictine monk of Saint Andrew s Abbey, Valyermo, California.

This past week four of our youth; Addi Volp, Addi Cegielski, Sophie Yetter, and Rylee Konrade attended LBH in Oshkosh. Each day, together with their group, they went out and served those in need in Oshkosh. The day also included a fun break in the afternoon at Pollack Pool. The evening provided an opportunity to pray for those we served and for our own needs. The week was warm but, we all had a great time! Saturday, July 21 after the 6:00pm Mass
