THE SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Just what is Martha s error? One possibility is that she defined herself not by what she was, a friend of Jesus, but by what she could do. Her intentions were good. Jesus needs this, she figured. From which she went on to think, Jesus needs me. The danger then becomes that she ll conclude, So why do I need Jesus? I m the one doing everything! Easy it is to fall into that trap. During our busy week, we do what we must to take care of ourselves and our loved ones. Then on the weekend, we make a little time to pay our respects to God. A disconnection, that is, can grow up between our daily activity and our relationship with God. If we do for ourselves all week, why pretend otherwise on Saturday or Sunday? That is how any of us could end unless, like Mary, we see that the whole adventure of life is a gift, an unmerited gift, one we could never earn but only receive. We should receive it attentively and thankfully. ANNUAL SOLEMN NOVENA IN HONOR OF ST. ANNE ST. ANNE PARISH, CASTLE SHANNON, July 18th 26th, 412-531-5964. ST. AGNES SCHOOL NEWS SWING FORE THE STUDENTS Calling all golfers! Please keep October 2 reserved for Swing Fore the Students Golf Outing at Butler s benefiting St. Agnes School. Begin to get your foursome together. The price will be $100 a person. More information will be available in the near future. There s no chance for you being a $500 winner unless you buy a ticket. RAFFLE TICKET RETURNS Our heartfelt appreciation for the many who have made their returns for the St. Agnes Summer Festival. More raffle tickets are available following the weekend Masses. PARISH SHARE 2010 Your help is needed to reach our goal! Christ s teachings point out that we, His followers, need to share our material blessings with others. Through Parish Share, we are able to support the works of Catholic Charities, the good works arm of the Diocese that serves in all of our six counties, as well as youth and young adult ministries, respect life ministry, hospital chaplains, and Pre-Cana preparation programs, our Catholic Schools and all Diocesan Catechism programs to name just a few. REMEMBER if we exceed our PSP goal, we can use the excess funds to support our own parish projects and ministries. Help us surpass our goal and build up our parish savings assessment free. Whatever you can do will be greatly appreciated. Prayerfully thankful! The second collection on the first Sunday of every month is for the Parish Share Campaign. The next collection will be on the weekend of July 31st and August 1st. We are only half way in receiving the funds for the Parish Share and we have until the end of January to fulfill our assessed goals. Otherwise, the funds will be drawn from the Diocese with the normal interest rates. Your understanding and support in this annual Parish Share Program is deeply appreciated.

St. Agnes Summer Festival on July 30th-31st The general chairpersons, as well as those who have specific duties, have been very busy making all the necessary preparations. But we need all parishioners to also make preparations buying and selling the raffle tickets, and donating to the various stands that the patrons will be looking forward to: CHINESE AUCTION This raffle features all new or unused items. Maybe you received a gift that you cannot use, or bought something for yourself that you never use donate it and others may find it attractive. Again, mark and designate your donation for this raffle, and drop it off at the Social Hall, the Convent or Rectory. WINES, LIQUEURS, & LIQUORS These are always attractive raffle items. If you would like to give some of these, drop them off the week of the Festival in Parish Church Office. WHITE ELEPHANT SALE Your used but usable items might be just the treasure that someone is looking for. The popularity of this sale is seen by the crowds that visit the displays in the grade school building. Drop your donations off in the School. And please remember, no clothing or shoes. Drop off at the School, first room on the right. Drop off days and times in the school: July 15th, 16th, 17th.... 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. July 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd...9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 23rd, 24th..... 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. July 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th... 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. BAKE SALE Plan to bake something for Friday or Saturday of the Festival, or both. A DONATION OF YOUR TIME to work for a few hours at one of the booths. If everyone does a little, no one is stuck for hours without relief. Don t wait to be asked, VOLUNTEER!! This Annual Festival is our one big parish fundraiser of the year that enables us to make ends meet financially. It is for the benefit of the entire parish, and we would hope that all parishioners would take an active part in it donating for it working for it and patronizing it and having fun doing it! Golden Wedding Celebration The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh is again planning its annual Golden Wedding Celebration for the couples who have bee married for 50 years. This year s celebration will take place on Sunday, October 3rd, beginning with a Mass at 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul Cathedral. Bishop Zubik will be the celebrant. A reception will follow in the lower hall at the Cathedral. If you are a parishioner celebrating your 50th wedding anniversary in 2010, and would be interested in attending the celebration along with the other jubilarian couples, please call the rectory or drop a note in the weekly collection basket no later than August 8th.
