January/February, 2019 - Vol. 16- Issue 1 I am the Good Shepherd. I know my sheep and my sheep know Me. John 10:14 FROM THE PASTOR S STUDY Happy New Year! (It s Time to Molt!) One of the cool things about my years teaching, was that each year I would see one third of my students move on to the next school, but they would be replaced by a new group of students to work with. Being a band director, I usually had a student for three years before they moved on. It was fun and rewarding to watch them grow, not only in their musical ability, but as a person. I always prayed that in some small way, I was able to contribute to their maturing process. We are entering the new year, 2019. In many ways, it s an opportunity for us to make this a year that we continue our spiritual maturity. Did you know that a blue crab molts about 20-25 times in its lifetime? Molting means that in order to get bigger, it must rid itself of its old shell and form a new hard one. It s quite a struggle for that crab to do this. It happens over and over in the crab s lifetime. They struggle, but it s the only way for them to grow. Many times in our life, we face difficult struggles. As we get through those struggles, we grow as well. We molt. We shed what was behind us, and look forward to a new beginning. 2019 offers us an opportunity to grow as God wants us to. We should get rid of our old protective shell and allow God to take us to a new place in Him. We are given only so many years to serve Him and we should take every opportunity to do just that. We should seize those opportunities. We live in a world that is full of busyness and clatter. People are distracted and unable to hear the still, small voice of God as He speaks to them. What about you? Are you tuned into His voice? Do you hear Him when He speaks to you? Are you listening? Milt Let s molt together in 2019 and grow into the follower of Christ that He wants us to be.

THE SHEPHERD S FLOCK On December 16, 2018 Jessica and Kevin Cook dedicated their daughter Bailee May Cook to the Lord at the 11 a.m. service. Bailee was born on October 26, 2018. May her life be richly blessed with the love of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. WALK-THE-WALK We were able to sponsor 87 children through the Walk-the-Walk program this year thanks to you. Thank you to everyone who helped by taking a child or several children so that we were able to bless these families this Christmas season....god loves a cheerful giver. 2 Cor. 9:7 SUNDAY SCHOOL We have Sunday School classes for pre-k through High School at the 9 a.m. service and pre-k through middle school at the 11 a.m. service. We have dedicated teachers who share God s word with our young people each week. We could still use some substitutes. If you are willing to fill in at the last minute and be blessed by the kids, let me know. Also, if you feel God pulling at your heart to teach or feel that God is calling you to step up and take on some new responsibilities, please see me. We have teachers that have been teaching for quite some time, and although they love what they do, maybe it s time for you to either help out and co-teach or become a teacher. The only requirements are you have to be a member of Jenkins Church and love the Lord and the kids! Call me at (410) 867-8731 if you are interested! Bob Kruger
JMIC Jenkins Men in Christ JMIC is the Men s Ministry at Jenkins Memorial Church. There is no membership. If you are a man attending here you are a Jenkins Man in Christ. A man is in charge of his sphere of influence. Us men should be reading, studying and putting into practice God s word. * Bible Study Saturday mornings. We have Bible Study on Saturday mornings. Here is what it looks like. We have breakfast at 7am; study at 7:30 which consists of a video study. The video is about 30 minutes long and they are awesome videos! Then we sit around and discuss the video which has about 2-3 questions for another 30 minutes. Each man s input to the questions not only helps himself but the other men as well. It s fun, it's casual, and it helps us all grow in our Christian walk as men. If you are like me your life is full of marriage, kids, and work. When do we feed ourselves? Take an hour and a half and feed yourself with God's Word. It can't do anything but help! The Bible tells us to fellowship and work alongside each other. Hebrews 10: 24-25 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. * Your input at congregational meetings is vital to the growth of our church. How does our church make the decisions that it does? By the input of all of us in this congregation. Come to the meetings and fellowship (as in the Hebrew verse above), sit down next to your fellow church members and eat lunch and visit. Get to know one another and partake in the church business. * Helping out at events at church is a good way to serve. I am so glad I started helping at church; it's rewarding; gives you a sense of accomplishment and helps you to feel at home and part of the family. Just helping to breakdown after an event or serve some soup at our soup event is an awesome way to serve. You don't have to jump right into a ministry leader s position. Rolling up your sleeves and working alongside someone and then seeing them in church and saying hello to them goes a long way to building the relationship in our church. (As in the Hebrew verse above) * We study hard, we work hard and we play hard. We have a Chic-Fil-A and a Ledo's pizza night out. It s a fundraiser for our ministry. Both places give us a percentage. This gives us another chance twice a year to take our whole family out for a
dinner. Life is fast paced and busy; here is a nice relaxing night to take your family to. It also feels good to look around these establishments and see your church family sitting everywhere. (As in the Hebrew verse above). In March we have our annual Community breakfast we put on. It's a great thing for the community and the congregation but it is so awesome when us men come together and cook and serve the best breakfast in Pasadena, In May we do the same thing but this time it s a Pit Beef; in June on Father s Day us men have the privilege of putting together the service: we deliver the sermon, we read the scripture, we read the prayer cards, we often have father and son teams take the offering. Also in June we go charter Tuna fishing out of Ocean City Maryland and in August we have a horseshoe tournament. You guessed it Hebrews 10: 24-25 So this my friends is an invite to join your brothers at Jenkins Memorial Church. No membership, no requirements, just letting you know that you are already a part of JMIC (Jenkins Men in Christ). It's not what you can do for us, it s what you can do for yourselves by walking beside us, which in turn will help you walk beside Jesus. It's Jesus that changes our heart; it's just a little easier getting there alongside your brothers. Ken Kretsinger, a Jenkins Man in Christ Ladies Aid The Ladies Aid members have been busy since our meetings resumed in September. The members welcomed Barbara Pearce who joined Ladies Aid in October. Ladies Aid participated in the Harvest Festival and raised $165 at our bake sale. We appreciate those members who support our bake sales by either baking or buying. Members visited the residents at Locust Lodge in November and celebrated with those who have a November birthday with cupcakes. Ladies Aid helped support the Soup and Sandwich Lunch and also made $139 at the Ladies Aid bake table during this event. The members are very interested in supporting and thanking our men & women in the Military. Deb McDowell attended our meeting and gave us an overview of the (MCVET) Maryland Center of Veterans Education & Training, Inc. Members wrote letters to our active Military and collected clothes, toiletries and books for our veterans. We extend our appreciation to Dan and Deb McDowell for their guidance and direction
with this ongoing project. Ladies Aid made a profit of $870 at our Christmas Bazaar and Cookie Walk. We appreciate those members who supported this event by baking cookies, renting a vendor table or buying cookies. Ladies Aid proudly donated $1,300 to 4 families in need this Christmas. We visited with the Locust Lodge residents again this week. We sang Christmas carols, shared cookies and gave each resident a gift bag. The residents always have a smile on their faces and look forward to our visits. It s so gratifying to know that just a few minutes of our time is so much appreciated by this group. The Ladies Aid meets the second Monday of the month at 11:30 in the Fellowship Hall. Our meetings consist of devotions, planning/scheduling fundraising events, and is a great time for Christian fellowship. If you are interested in joining the Ladies Aid, please call Lynn Redding at 443-255-0582 or email at lynn.redding@comcast.net. Respectfully submitted, Lynn Redding JWIC - Jenkins Women in Christ JWIC is a group for all women of the church. Each week they will earn points for the various things that we do and one team will be awarded the gold medal!

We were able to provide food baskets to 16 needy families in our immediate area with the hams, turkeys, canned goods, and cash donations that were received. Thank you also to everyone who helped with packing the boxes and delivering them! Happy New Year! May God grant you many blessings in 2019. Behold, I am making all things new. Rev. 21:5
